| Post subject: | Need a new Sierra engine |
Hi, I know there have been numerous threads about this already but I just cant seem to find one that i really could use. My engine is almost buggered and want to try and put another one in it at a cheap price. What engine seems to be relatively good and not too expensive to install? I've heard there is some diesel engine which can be pretty much straight swapped without needing a new gearbox? I am currently running 31's on it and is the 1.3 still suitable or would the vitara engine be the best swap? Plus does anybody know of where I can get it installed that's not too expensive? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. |

There's no diesel that will swap in without needing a new gearbox. There is a huge diesel debate thread around here somewhere, most think it isn't a great idea due to size and weight. 1.3 will be the cheapest option. Get a low k long motor out of a swift or barina and swap all your bolt ons on the motor and you are good to go. G16a will be the next easiest. Gives a power upgrade with very little conversion work. Most people will say G16b is the best with all things considered. Location helps if you want recommendations of places to install.. |

Do the engine sizes vary from different years? If I went with the G16a, is the conversion kit very expensive? Sorry mate, I live Perth. Unfornately my budget which I can afford is about 2k. |

2k will easily do a G16a. Sierra's engines range from the 1L's then changed to 1.3L's in 85 through to 97. Nothing bigger was offered. Conversion kit from Ben T is $200 delivered: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=15009 There is only 4 wires to connect up, the rest is a few bolts, trim the sump and it is all done. The conversion kit comes with comprehensive instructions on how to drop it in. |
