Youve been lucky! Ive never had a cracked one, But have only ever had baleno. Ive cooked one and she still went like a cat on fire with oil bubbling and black smoke. Only thing that stopped me was the crank sensor melted casing, arcing out onto the sump. Block didnt crack. I then changed the whole engine.. |

stockman wrote: So it's safe to say the g16's are a cracking motor! Boom tsssh They crack because they were made with alloy that isn't the greatest quality, with years of expansion and contraction even the best alloys will crack. |

rob45x wrote: Has anyone slipped a J20A into a sierra?? I have seen many conversion kits for 1.6 but not for a 2.0 Yeah its been done plenty of times. Conversion kit.... http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=18&category_id=66&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53 Tanshi got his running with the J20, before tearing it down. I'm half way through the same conversion. IMO its more work, but if you are happy to address the strength issues with the rest of the drive line the J20 is a stella choice for a sierra ( atleast on paper ). Worth mentioning that the fit quite well into the engine bay. |

rob45x wrote: Strength issues ? Gearbox and diffs ? yep. Other suspect parts would be the transfer case ( long term) and deifnately uni-joints. Upgrading to hilux based drive shafts would be a good idea. There is no reason why you couldn't just drop the motor in and address these other things as they become an issue, but just be aware that a J20 FAR exceeds the power and tourque handling abilities of most of the sierra drive train. And a brake upgrade is a must! |
