Doing my 1600 conversion at the moment, with the oil pickup, why not just bolt it on with some goop where it goes into the oil pump? If that is a really bad idea, instead of doing it the normal way, could I cut and shut it just after the oil pump fitting? I am asking this because it would save me modifying the sump.

The pickup doesn't go into the pump directly.
It goes into the block.

I wouldn't use "goop" because if it comes out you'll have no oil pressure.
Cut and shut the two tubes wherever you like as long as the G16 part is in the block and the G13 tube suits the sump.
