Hey guys
What's the go with buying a auto engine,
Can I just take off all the auto bits and put Sierra clutch and flywheel on, then put the Sierra box on it?
Or does the computer need to be updated or do I need a computer from
A manual?

As far as unbolting the auto and flexplate and fitting Sierra flywheel, clutch and gearbox you will just need an adaptor kit or weld lugs onto the bellhousing.
I'm not sure about the computer.

Yeah so once you unbolt allthe auto gear off you just continue with putting the Ben T kit on etc? And maybe get a new ecu..

AFAIK Early G16B (Vitara) computers are the same for auto and manual. I'm not sure this is the case with later engines or non-vitaras.

If you do end up with an auto ECU and wiring loom, don't throw out the auto plugs and auto part of the loom. Send it up

i did this conversion with a 96 swb auto, the auto models come with two seperate computers, it is just a matter of pretty much just cutting out any of the wires that go from the ecu to the auto comp. as for bolting the engine up the auto runs this sort of spacer on the fly wheel from memory which u can just pop out but im sure one of the gurus could tell you what it is. other than that it is just like installing a manual engine

So I have just picked up a G16b out of a manual Vit and would like to mount it to a 3sp auto box my question is what is required with regards to the electrical side of things ? Will the 3sp run off the manual computer ? Where does it need to pickup its signal from ?

The three speed auto doesn't have any "signals" other than vacuum and kickdown (TV) Yes it will 100% run off a manual computer. There is enough idle speed control for the G16B to hold idle when the car engages and disengages gear.

You can adapt the throttle pedal to pull on the TV cable easily. This is easier than adapting the carby vitara TV throttle cable widgetry to the G16B engine. You need to do this even if you don't care about kick down because when you're at full throttle the TV cable is tight which ups line pressure to hold gears better.

For wiring, there is a single plug with four pins or something that plugs into the auto. Two pins are the starter interlock, so you just loop the starter solenoid wore (back with a yellow trace) through that, and the other two pins are for the reverse light.

I've been having a dig

In the picture below I gather this is the vacuum line ? How secure/tight fit is this line meant to be ? As far as I can tell the only thing that holds this line in place is the bend in the steel tube as there arent any clamps and I cant see the rubber hose that slides down over the join sealing all that much
