Hey guys im not to sure how long it will take for the springs to soften up, but right now they are rubbish ive only got the rear shocks in and i tryed flexing it on a small rock and one wheel was hanging and the shock wernt even half way down now that ive seen it and done it i understand what most of yous were going on about 3" been stiff, i had no idea it was going to be that stiff, the ride is so bumpy, i cant even go over dirt roads at 10ks hmmmmm what do yous think ?? get new OME 2" springs i herd they where pretty soft ?? or take out a leaf from the ones i have ??? or something completely diffrenet ?? keith

By all means try them as they are, but I don't think it's the optimal setup without plenty of supporting work.

I don't want to say I told you so.... but I told you so. I wondered how long it would be before we got the " I just bought 3" springs but now I have no flex and it rides like crap".. and there it is. Try taking a leaf, or two, or five, or something out. Be aware though, when you remove leaves, you reduce spring rate, but you also reduce the ability of the spring to locate the axle. Axle wrap can become very severe once the pack has been de-rated to gee you an acceptable ride. You will find that once the pack is de-rated to ride and flex, you'll end up with between 1 and 2" of lift. That's as much lift as a sierra spring will take and still ride and flex.

steve, im sorry i should of listened to you in the first place lol but i really didnt think it would be so stiff, why would they sell such a spring, its undriveable from what your saying about removing leafs from the pack i dont think i want to do that, id rather get new ones and not go through the trouble, i hate trouble, this lil set back is slowly putting me off the stupid sierra, i still have heaps to go and its pissing me off cause i just want to go wheeling if i get 2" OME springs is it ok to go a 2" bodylift ?? would that bee a better setup, with a vertual lift aswell and longer shocks

What tyre size have you ended up on? 2" BL and OME springs will clear most stuff.
Steve.
PS "They" sell 3" springs because people want to buy them. If nobody sold 3" springs someone would make a set. There are lots of bad parts available for cars.

im happy with a 31, alot of ppl have gone that way without having any trouble, I already have the chromoly cvs and axls in the front so dont have to worry about them,
I think next pay day ill get ome 2" springs, what price am I looking at from arb ? And what is a good lenght for the rear shocks ? Ive got new ones from low range but there only about 2" bigger then stock, and I have a rear after market mount, I think they sent me the wrong ones ??

If the springs we're lengthened to compensate for the extra camber in the spring. It should give a nice ride with a leaf out.

Use the main and secondary of this set and then pack it with 6mm leafs from your stock set. For the 3" camber springs they will have a fairly long main which is a good thing

Do it for yourself.
What brand were the 3" springs?

These guys would not lead you astray. I think what they are saying is that the 3" springs with a leaf pulled are just as good, if not a better spring than the 2" OME's you are looking at buying. Why pay for new springs when you have all the components to a good setup right there? Just like with YJ's here in the states, you can't buy a YJ spring pack that works better for the Sierra than what you can make at home. They just don't sell a YJ pack with the spring rate that is nice and soft, but handles well on road, so you have to make your own. I's easy to reach that frustration point when you don't even want to look at your Sierra, but that is what makes it so much sweeter when you take it out and everything works as you want it.

Speaking from experience I have 3" lifted Calmini springs which now flex and ride well with leaves removed. As mentioned above, if the springs are made long enough to suit a 3" lift then with leaves removed they should be good.

Question 1: No idea. You might be able to run 3 leaves. That's normally the lower limit. Question 2: No big deal to take out. No, you don't need special tools (except a g clamp to put the pack back together)

If you can fit them you can pull a leaf or two. The only difference is undoing the centre bolt from the springs to pull the leaf you wish.
Just check that your U-bolts have enough thread to tighten up when you have a thinner spring pack.

Gwagensteve wrote: Question 1: No idea. You might be able to run 3 leaves. That's normally the lower limit. Steve. By the sounds of it his pack is probably made of 7mm or thicker leafs RE: solid!! As per above I suggest you go down to 2 leafs from these 3" packs and add a few extra from you stock packs.

Steve. You may also need to open up the clamps around the leaves if it has them, done using a hammer and screwdriver or cold chisel. The point of my original post was you already have everything you need, everyone here is telling you to pull a leaf or two before you spend any more money as it may give you the ride you are hoping to achieve and it will cost you nothing but a bit of time.
