Post subject:  Zook Mechanic in Melbourne

Gday Guys,

Im new to the forum, and a new owner of a 88 SWB Sierra.

Im looking for a "Good" Suz mechanic in Melbourne to do the finer tuning ie: Carby, Wheel bearing replacement, gearbox and any performance mods and advice, etc

Only reason is I dont have the tools to do all the work myself, and I wont take it to anyone who will just rip off and have no idea.

I am looking forward to making this Zook into weapon with all the advice on here.

Cheers and keep up the great posts.

go buy a half decent socket, spaners set, feeler guage and timing light. will cost abot $250 less if you don't get the spanners and make do with the sockets for a while. then you have the tools to fix the car on the track if you need to( and you'll end up needing to one day :D ) and do services. the tools will pay for them self in what you save in the next 3 times if you had takin it to some one

we can help with the rest with tips to tune it and work on it.

Thanks mate, But I already have those pieces of equipment.
Its more around Pressure Guages/Pumps for Carby's. Slide Hammers, Bearing Pullers. These are the expensive once off tools that I am not going to invest in.

So basically anyone that can do the carby blow off pressures on the jets and also doing rear wheel bearings, and gear box rebuilds.

I also dont have the time to pull apart and have off the road for weeks.

Hey foolsp33d
Based in Chelsea, down southern suburbs of Melb
Happy to travel, Box has a very slack 3/4 gate which makes shifting quite hard, and she is pretty rough through the gears with lockouts at slow speeds. Prob just the synchro's are worn and off line.
I picked up the stock zook beast only a couple of weeks ago.

I think its wheel bearings as the Wheel bearing grinding noise, not high pitch screaming. Can also feel roughness through the brake pedal on light braking, Diff was full of oil so dont think diff has issues. Bloke I bought it off said he thought it was tyres. But they are standard Bridgie AT Steel radials. But this thing has been towed behind a camp van for the last 10 years so I think the axles have done plenty of work but engine is good.

3rd, Carby. Doesnt idle smooth, nor adjust the idle speed. Slight stutter thru the rev range, and smells rich. Fuel Eco is pretty crap. So think Slow Speed Idle mix is rich. Once secondaries open she is great.

Happy for suggestions, although I cant seem to find the Slow Idle mixture screw, unless these dont have external adjustment

I have a good mechanic that does almost everything including exhausts and brakes. Used to be a midas service center. Good prices too . He's in springvale near spaghetti junction. Loves my zook and has been looking after me for over 10 years.
