5.12 from the front diff of auto? vitaras.

whats the best ratios to get a bit more power

Post subject:  Re: diff ratios

Changing your diff ratios does not give you more power.

Shorter ratios ( bigger number) spin the motor faster for the same road speed so the engine is developing more power at the same road speed as compared to standard gears, so it will hold speed for longer on hills.

The car will also accelerate faster. THe byproduct of this is that your lower gears are less useful on road, and fuel economy decreases due to the higher revs. In the case of a carby car, this change can be significant.

Changing diff ratios is best done to put revs back to standard once you have fitted bigger tyres.

More information about your setup will allow use to provide better advice.

Steve.

I have 31's, 4.16 transfer, 3.9's diffs with the 1.3 motor. Its almost perfect for cruising around town. Somewhere around 4000rpm @ 100.

X2.

There is a way you can count the ratio by turning the pinion flange a certain number of times, but I can't remember the process.

i guess i can mark the pinion and wheels and count the number of times till the pinion and the wheels all line back up. the devide the number of pinion rev over wheels rev.
i have a horrible feeling that my rear diff is diferant to my front diff!
beats pullin both diffs out and counting em!
