hey guys got a 97 g16b in my sierra. now i took it to my local mechanic to get it tuned after the motor was wired up. he set my timing to 2deg. i seem to remember reading somewere that it should be at 8 deg but i cant turn the dizzy anymre as its at its limit. so do i pull the dizzy out and try and get it to 8deg or leave it were he set it?

Stock timing is 5deg -+1deg

Pull the dizzy out and move it a few teeth over so you are in the middle of the adjustment again.

FSM says 5*BTDC base timing with the diagnostic plug bridged. I've just set mine till she starts to ping and brought her back a few degrees.

pulled the dizzy out a million times adjusting it but i still cant get it to 5deg. the closest i can get is 2 and 11.... might just get a round file and file a bit out of the dizzy so i can turn that tiny bit more..

Something not right then. You should be able to get 8-10 in the middle of the adjustment

i rekon the mechanic must ov had the same problem so he just left it at 2deg. would filling the adjustment out a tiny bit work or not a good idea, theres a fair bit of meat on the sides.
