I prefer Stauns. Screw them on and go have a chat to those using the EZ Deflator.

Over the weekend someone was using the EZ deflator and checked the pressure with one of those new properly calibrated big dial low pressure tyre guage from ARB and found that the EZ deflator were about 2 psi out.

It's as simple as, lowering a tyre down to desired pressure, unlock the locking ring, screw the main part until it starts to let air out, push the button at the end and tighten the locking ring.

To service, simply unscrew the whole lot, lubricate the insides with WD40, lanoline, silicon or similar, see process above.

Am looking at getting some tyre deflaters, looking on ebay there are cheap ones and expensive ones. is there any difference? in quality? and performance? what ones should i get?

I wouldn't get the staun knock-offs if they are the ones you are talking about. The knock-offs make a shocking hissing noise as they let the air out, and are a good deal slower also than the stauns. Most of the guys I head out with either have the arb ezy deflator or stauns. Both have their good/bad points. If you only ever drop to one pressure I'd go the stauns personally. If you like to use different pressures all the time go the ezy deflator.

I've got the arb ezy deflator and it's pretty good, can't fault the quality or ease of use.

Staun would be your go then. I'm not a fan of the EZY deflator.. it shows the wrong reading nowadays. (Few months old and has had HEAPS of use)

I was going to buy the staun deflaters but once you set the pressures you can't really change them and they're nearly as much as the deflator My theory is....buy once.....

I have a set of staun deflators here if you want them. $25 and i'll post them to ya. I got them about 6 years ago and used them maybe twice and they have been sitting in a drawer for the last 5 years and 11 months Shoot me a pm if your interested. (I don't know what they are set for or how to set them, and they don't have the case thing they came with when I got them :p)

Main thing with the stauns is keep them clean. If they get dusty or if you drop them in the sand they'll start sticking and your pressures will be all over the place. If you do just strip and lubricate them as mentioned above. Keep them clean and they are usually pretty bloody accurate, I've found mine are always within 1psi.

I agree with you buzbox the screw in look so easy When I've see them used. The EZ deflator is good apart from the longevity of its accuracy. All the guys i know that have them loved them at the beginning now we all hate them cos they are like 10psi out, even took it to ARB and they said they had no idea.

I have both, the stauns still work good (5 years), And let you walk around and talk crap while they are delfating. only problem being the 1 pressure you set them to. 2 sets would be good, one for beach, 1 for mud/rocks. The arb thing i have still works and is good for using different pressures, but mine is 6psi out, and this is the same for most of my mates.

I use 2 deflators set at 17psi and the other 2 are set at 14-15. I've marked them with a texta to tell which ones which.
