Is there a right or wrong way to remove welsh plugs.
Any danger of knocking them in too far in process?

I had a $1 welsh plug kill a new engine in the Little Desert a while back.
So this new motors getting all new ones.
Especially in hard to reach spots.

You can push em in too far but you need to be pretty heavy handed

I like to hit one side with a punch so it pivots and the opposite side pokes out, then grab it and pull it out with some pliers

then to install find a socket that fits sungly in the plug and put some 4j sealant around the outside and tap it in slowly

If Royce's extraction method doesn't work, you can drill a hole in the plug and lever out with a screwdriver. They're not hard to get out when the motor is on the floor

Many thanks guys, thats within my grasp.

They "look " ok from outside, and feel ok with a tap,
but I never want to work on it again,
or have another motor die on a trip,
so I will change them.
Also got new rad hoses, and stuff.
Will do timing belt and anything else hard to reack when assembled.

Time to stop for the day, now, had enough, and I hungry :)

It's always a good idea to do all these things when you're doing a motor swap, as you say it saves pain and heartache down the track

Modifying is fun.

Fixing isn't.

So to motivate myself,
I will try to make it better than it was before :)
