Hi guys, bought a 99 jimny which had a rear tailshaft CV with no boot and was dry. suzuki only sell the entire rear tail shaft (450), so my mechanic cleaned it and put a generic boot kit on it Driving down the highway, rubber bootkit exploded. Back at square one. Does this problem happen to anyone else? Any solutions? Cheers |

I would be looking for another shaft with normal uni joints. You would have to drill new holes in the transfer flange though. Thats as much as i know about Jimnys's. I sold my Jim rear shaft that i had here but i still have the front. |

Hi guys, resurrecting this one. Mechanic put another boot kit on for free after my last post, have just finished a trip to Byron and back and the boot shredded again. Lasted longer ths time so happier. Obviously the highway vibrations are the cause.. I like the idea of replacing with a rear uni shaft, has anybody done this or can recommend a model to be looking at? cheers! |

I didn't have a clue what you guys are talking about as I didn't no they had a cv joint thing Just went and looked at mine and hasn't got a boot, I'm guessing it hasn't for a while now. Should I be running a boot? |

I Have a really bad memory and it has been a few years since i did this but I'll do my best to remember. I used to have a nt sierra so I must have used the parts from that as a donor, use the front transfer flange and front tail shaft take the tail shaft to a good drive shaft reco man and get them to shorten it to suit Jimny rear you may even use a Jimny Front drive shaft can't remember but there are Suzuki Parts interchangeable to do this some ideas to play with but it has been done. |

zooky - when I bought the car there was no boot or anything. but there was a nasty clunking sound and odd acceleration jumping everytime i took off. being new to 4wd's i just threw it at the mechanic and he discovered the joint was bone dry and was just metal grinding metal. he put on the boot and filled with grease. I think it would take a considerable amount of time to break the cv if i didnt get it fixed, but it would definately happen. gman - thanks for giving me a starting point to start asking around about. never played with interchanging drive shafts before, but happy to try. I do a fair bit of mud and water, so its pretty important to me to get the drive shaft right. alien: more than happy, heres some pics. you can see I havent removed the shredded boot yet, just got home (but man did it make a BANG when it went). the grease has splattered all over the underside of the car. anything you can suggest ?
Thanks for the help guys, its great to learn this stuff |

When I did my transfer swap they specify using a WT Sierra front drive shaft to replace the rear Jimny shaft. It's longer so for your Jim you'll need to have it shortened as gman mentioned. The WT shaft flange holes will match but you'll need new nuts and bolts. EDIT to above stuff-up: Don't know what I was thinking here guys. The WT shaft flange will match the Jimny diff flange, but NOT the standard transfer output flange. You'll need to have it drilled or something to make it work. Sorry for any inconvenience. Here's a pic showing the longer WT shaft on the left and Jimny shaft on the right.

I need a CV. I destroyed it on a rock face Saturday. There is an eBay seller in the UK that has CV boots. His page suggests he also sells the CV's but he has just replied and says he does not. eBay Drive Shaft CV boot |

Guys, heaps of thanks for all that. Pretty much cleared up the whole thing in my head, pictures do make life easy... I'll grab the bootkit you mentioned bugsta, cheap as chips anyway (euro exchange rate is awesome atm!!). And that will give me another few months to get the sierra shaft and have it modified to swap straight in and get rid of the CV altogether Given others seem to have lost their CV boot, seems like the design is pretty flawed and fails alot! |

Yeah mine has been broken for quite a while but very close to the rear end of the cone, so it still kept the grease in and the moisture out from what I can tell. |

Driveline Services says they cannot just replace the CV. Cost to modify my shaft and fit a standard uni joint... $650. I WON'T be doing that. Is it not possible to remove and replace the CV? I have yet to pull the T-case end off and inspect it yet. Might do that this arvo. |

What's a Jimny Mark II rear shaft worth? |

How long is a jimny shaft compressed? Been looking at toyota shafts for mine atm. They might be worth it for you to run them as theyre alot more common. Luxdouble cardon front 750mm compressed 80' front normal uni's, 780mmish compressed Same bolt pattern as a wt sierra. 10mm bolts Adaptors can be bought cheap from lowrange as centre locating hole is 1mmish bigger than zook. Double cardon holes are abit larger weird pcd. needs adaptor. |

Jimny rear prop shaft... Compresseed 660mm Extended ~700mm I think the T-case end is the same but the diff bolt pattern is different. I have found A Mark II for $100 and we have determined that all is the same as MIII. I am yet to do any research on this but a conversation I had yesterday with a Jimny veteran suggests it might be possible to change flanges on the input and output shafts with others (from Sierra or maybe Toyo) to allow easy mods. |

I think as I pushed the front up the rock face, the back end slammed in ON the prop shaft. The weight of the car would have been enough to do this.
There is a crack on the other side of the cage as well that can't be seen in this photo. I have called a couple of driveline/CV servicing companies and UK Suzuki suppliers but nobody has the CV kits for these. |

I haven't actually measured on the vehicle. I just held the CV end on and extended out to approximately how I remembered it sitting. Also, someone I have been talking to had a Mark II shaft on hand measured it for me, and it agreed with my measurements. |
