Post subject:  Suggestions of engines to transplant into my Vitara? CA,SR?

Am looking at a straight G16B swap but any suggestions of other engines and tricks to put them in would be great!
Wouldn't mind maybe a CA18DE or an SR20DE?
The standard G16B's are just so gutless. Would'nt mind putting something a bit punchier, even though it will be a lot more work in regards to different tranny, engine mount fabrication, wiring loom etc, but any suggestions and advice from people who have done something along these lines would be great.
Thanks.

Ah ok. Are they difficult to fit into a 93 Vit?
Is that the 6cyl?

SR20DET!!!

Theres been a few 20v and 4AGZE vitaras poping up. from the sounds of it there not hard to fit either.

Haha an SR20DET would be good but I don't think my diff would be up for it.
4AGZE? Is that a sprinter motor? What would be involved?

I measured up an SR20DET for Darkhorses' LWB vit, and it looks like it will be an ugly conversion :?

and 180kw is WAY too much power for all ov the vit driveline. Cool as it may be, you could easily throw 20K at getting it working and you'll still be left with a difficult and possibly unreliable car thats worth 5-8K :(

JMO
Pete

EDIT: the $20K was including the necessary driveline upgrades

Yep. Think I'll stay clear of the boosted variety.
Asperated 4 cyl is what I want.

i think selling the 1.6 SE416 Vitara & buying a 2.0 SV420 would work out heaps cheaper & would be a factory install.

Yeah but mine is worth nothing with a blown motor and I only bought it 4 months ago for $4k so i have to get it running again.

Maybe its my tyres size and the fact that I still have factory gearing, but I find my J20 vit to be a bit of a slug. :?

No doubt the J20 in my sierra will be nothing short of mind blowing, but I just don't think there is a great enough jump in performance between a G16 and J20 vitara to justify selling a car to buy another, OR fitting the J20 to an SE416.

JMO... :(

OP.... What sort of gains are you after? Do you want the power delivery to be similar to what you have now? Or would you prefer to make peak power and torque higher in the rev range? (= no good offroad)

^^^ you're not driving it right

i'll admit it's no rocket, but put it next to a 1.6 both with stock gearing & both on 30's & it's a fair difference.

True.... But enough to justify the effort? :?

I reckon the 4AGZE has near on perfect power and torque figures for a vit. Nice early peak torque, and with a steel GV front diff it would be very reliable. 125kw won't kill the gearbox, transfer or rear diff if you don't drive like a complete wanker

I'm not after any real gains. Just the fact that my old G16 was real slow and I need to put a new engine in my Vit. Trying to kill 2 birds with one stone.
I'm not fussed with putting another G16 in but just wanted to know what other options were out there. I use the car daily and for getting up the beach.

Then you want reliable

Since you don't have an engine to sell to recoupe costs, you should probably budget 3-5K for any sort of upgrade.

G16B sounds like the best option given what you use the vehicle for

Yeah, reliable is definately what I'm after. Think I'll just go with a replacement G16.
Even I should be able to do a straight swap!

Sounds like a good idea.

Take it from me. I have 2 unfinished sierras that amongst other things, are undergoing engine transplants, and it can be quite taxing on time, money and patience!

G16B will have you back on the beach in no time

Yeah. Decision made. Do you think $1450 for a G16 with 70000kms and 3 month warranty is reasonable?

Id pay that if its a Vit engine, but if its a Baleno you would want to know it going to fit ok and no probs with Acc's.

Is that engine only of loom, acc, ecu etc??

Yeah, Not sure. I'll have to confirm with them that it's definately a vit engine.
It's complete motor with loom and all.
Not looking forwards to the swap.
