hi all,
I am looking for replace the drive belt of my grand vitara (sq420, J20A).
However, after google around, I found different answers for that.
Went to supercheap auto and Repco, they can not give me a solid answer either.

Got 5PK1550 is for no air con.
5PK1650 and 5PK1635 is for with air con.
Most of the result point out 5PK1635, but few said 5pk1650.
The problem is 5PK1635 is more expensive than 5pk1650, and since I can adjust the tensioner a bit, so maybe the 1650 can fit as well?

Because the information I source from International (US) and Taiwanese website, I am worry if the Grand Vitara in different country(region) use different rotor and end up with different size.

Any idea or suggestion?

Cheers
Colin

Take the old one off and look for a number on it? Provided it hasn't worn off, the part number (pk/length in mm) is typically printed on the flat side of the belt at manufacture.

Alternatively, measure the length with a piece of string?

Sounds like a good idea, thanks mnemonix.
I will go to have a look tomorrow morning.
Taking it out and measure it with a string sounds like too much effort tho.^^

5PK1650 - so says the FSM, and that's what's on my SQ420 - if you want, give me the VIN/Chassis number off the vehicle and I'll look it up for you.

Thanks Fordem,
However, I have purchased the belt from eBay, and the P/N I bought is 5PK1635.
I got two different P/N as I said above after searching around.
The seller of eBay guaranty 5PK1635 is for my car otherwise they will full refund.
I will check my VIN/Chassis number and PM you, if you can help me to double check that will be appreciated.

Got the driving belt and fan belt from eBay last week and try to replace them the past weekend.

End up the 5PK1635 is too short.
The old one did not have any number on it, after measure that from the outer radius, its 1660.
So I assume its 5PK1650 (if the length is measure from inner radius).

The manufactory fan belt is 3PK495, got 3PK500, I assume the 5mm length different wont make much problem.

Can not put the 5PK1635 back on, so 5PK1650 should be the right one.

Mine is Grand Vitara SWB sq420 3dr (Engine: 2.0L, J20A)

My J20A uses a 5PK1635.

It was recently replaced from the original and I can easily remove/replace the belt using the tensioner so I assume it's the correct length.

EDIT: I just did a GATES cross reference and it says the equivalent to Suzuki part # 95141-67D00 is a belt of length 1653mm... so... not sure why mine fits though. Could this be leading to my idler pulley getting noisy after only a few 000kms?

I do another search around internet.
People from US said it should be 5PK1650.
But every info I got in Australia are 5PK1635.
And I have tried to put the 1635 on, its impossible, but the old one can put back easily.
I really don't know what happened here...
But it annoyed me a lot.

At least good news is the seller can let me refund the wrong belt without charging extra.

That's because US drivers want everything to be bigger then everyone elses... even their drive belts.

Still got me stumped why they need a longer belt on the same model car as ours. Maybe one of their pulleys is slightly bigger???

Perhaps a/c - non a/c?

The parts manual does show two different belts for the SQ420 and that is where the difference lies.

There is another belt for non A/C vehicles. Both belts previously mentioned are for A/C.

"TheOtherLeft" is right.
The 5PK1635 & 5PK1650 are both for with A/C SQ420.

I may need to try to fit the 5PK1635 back again?
I can not image why my SQ420 need a longer belt than TheOtherLeft's.

But I have to say I feel since I can put the old one back, it means I did the right way to put it back, right?

Since I have the 5PK1635 in my hand already. I feel a bit lazy to source another 5PK1650 one.

So ive done a search and a google also called Dayco direct
I have the J20A with no A/C
Bought a 5PK1550 for no AC engine, Dayco said thats whats listed for them.
I cant measure what came off the engine because I have taken the AC off and made it non AC for my conversion.
It seems pretty dam short to me!
Anyone had the same prob with Non AC belts?
