Hey guys,
After pulling my cam shaft out to bolt my head back down I noticed it had some metal that has broke off... Attached is a photo below.. I got the head checked out etc with the camshaft in it, and the head guy never said anything about it, and if I noticed it he would of had to aswell...
Can anyone tell me if I need a new one? It's not on the machined parts, it kinda looks like its a locater for the first cap and seal....

Not sure on vitara motor. But I think on LROR I saw the standard 1.3 cam and a high torque cam were similarly priced. Better cam was more coin, but not huge.

Yep cam is foobared so I would first ...get a new mechanic - if he didnt see that ...what else did he miss ?? , then a new cam but before putting it in I would be pulling the sump off to find out 'where' that broken metal has gone !!!

I dropped the Tapper cover and a small piece snapped off, it is the parts that meets up with the timing belt cover.... The crank will be exposed a tiny bit when its back together... Should I buy a new one? Or leave it and it will be sweet? Or get some moulding stuff ? Thanks, Shane.

Hey guys, it was at pk heads near mine I'm not going there again... The engine has been fully striped down and cleaned and rebuilt since then...
Atari, i reckon your spot on with the rocker cover..I haven't found any damage to the head itself... This engine was one of my mates... The he's hasn't been off as far as he knows so I dunno about it being dropped...
But he was a rev head and would have defintly taken it into the reds alot.... If that would contribute to this

sorta off topic but talking about dodgy. i had a mechanic rebuild my front diff a while back. got it back and the hub wouldnt lock on one side, played around with it myself and fixed it, wasnt put in corect with the spring and turn thing. then a while later i done my own wheel bearings and re-greased inside the CV only to find it full of rocks... looks like they greased it, sat it on the gravel driveway (they done it outside...) then just picked it up and chucked it in with gravel stuck all over it.
since that day i do almost everything myself. i pay these people a small fortune for "good work" and get shit like that. at least i've learnt alot about my car since then haha
