I'm in the middle of doing a coil conversion on my WT Sierra and im up to sorting out tailshafts. I did abit of a search with not much luck. Does anybody know what model hilux is best suited and what's required to make them work?

you need to have an adapter made anyway as they dont 100% line up with sierra... unless you dremel the holes out a touch, but its safer to just make a spacer that picks up both sets of holes (ie: 8 bolts rather than 4).

does a hilux shaft have enough spline to work like this?

Im in the same situation.

Some toyota uni's match up with the sierra WT flange Holes same PCD. BUT, the centre hole has to be machined out 1mm or so. (can't remember exact)

I have an 80' Cruiser front. Uni's bolt holes are same as sierra Wt. Larger than suz centre hole like above.

Rear shaft has huge uni's and larger PCD. They have larger diffs in the rear.

I also have a 89' ifs surf front. Double cardon has different hole PCD. Spline is same length as the 80' though, which is weird as the ifs diff doesnt move..!

The rear surf one looked same size uni's as the fronts but with no double cardon PCD problem

Im guessing all lux's and 4runners will be similar.

Any shaft can be adapted with spacers or different flanges like lowrange ones.

Bullshit.

I have a lengthened hilux shaft in my ute. Its exactly the same PCD as WT sierra. Only early model hilux is different (pre 88), and possibly late model (post 98)

The only difference is that the locating spigot on the yoke is 1mm larger in diameter. The easiest solution is to remove your pinion and t-case flanges and bore out the centre +1mm.

Mine is the 88-97 rear shaft. I used the rear section from diff to centre bearing. It has a long spline and uni's at both ends. It was way to short for the LWB sierra but may close in a SWB.

I'll get some pics from my build thread.

Rear section of 88-97 2 piece rear tailshaft next to a standard LWB driveshaft.

The spline is about 25mm longer than the sierra shaft. And its bigger too.

Also beware that the IFS double cardin and solid axle double cardin may have a different full lock angle, a good friend of mine ran into this down here in Tassie running 7" coils in an 80 series, went to replace the tailshaft and found it didnt even droop far enough to match up to the diff. Ended up rebuilding the original one, but has now days lowered it a bit, as he got it engineered with a gen3 and ute chop :)

Cheers, Simon.

I've done the same on my lwb build. Used a WT to lux driveline adaptor from lowrange to mount my double cardin front shaft (for the front), but for the rear I re-manufactured the drum on my tailshaft handbrake assembly to take a rear bundera tailshaft. Only reason I used a Bundy shaft was because my local 4wd wrecker had one in there when I was picking up a p/steer pump & resiviour assemby off another Toyota.

Hope that helps mate, Simon.

I think alien has a double cardon front. Hole PCD is different at the double cardon end. The diff end is like zook pcd.

You wouldn't happen to know the length of the stock Hilux shaft would you FZ? It might be a good upgrade for the zook shaft. Boring the flange is no probs, thought i'd be tempted to take the yokes off the shaft and machine the spigot down. That way they'll fit into a standard zook diff.

I can tell you damo, the ones i have are around 1 inch longer than a standard front shaft. I was going to fit one in the front of Jenna at one stage and remove the spacer.

Sorry mate I don't have the measurements.

And the reason I suggested to machine the pinion and t-case flanges is that you don't need to jig them in a 4 jaw or on a face plate to machine them
