Post subject:  Massive body lift problems!

Hi guys, I'm having massive issues with fitting my bodylift. Some of the body lift bolts don't line up. The two front ones don't line up properly neither does one of the back ones.

Could anyone give me any ideas?

Cheers

Take the grille off. I can't recall if you have to remove the headlight or not - I don't think so.

Thanks guys, it says I have to adjust the file filler on the tank side and the flap side by half an inch each. Did anyone else do this?

I did a 50 mm body lift and had to slip the fuel filler hose down the steel part of the filler slightly on each side of the rubber part.

Sounds like your body has a twist in it, have you raised the body evenly? Its not an easy fix. Try starting over again you might be able to straighten the body if you bolt it back on the chassis with the original bolts.

X2. It can take quite a lot of wiggling to get them to line up. I normally sort of start at one end and crank the body around to get them to line up. Sometimes it takes a pinch bar between the chassis and body to move the body around to get them started.

hmmm.....maybe i'll try the whole thing all over again. I originally followed Low Range Offroads instructions which was to loosen all the bolts on the car and then take off the bolts from one side, then lift that side of the car until I could fit the body lift brackets in.

After that didn't work I tried lifting the whole car, still no success. My passenger door has always been a little harder to close than my driver door. Maybe my body is a little twisted.

if that is refering to mine, then yes. was involved in a low speed front impact, not much damage to mine only headlight and grill.

i had to pry mine around a fair bit to get the bolts to line up, please do not over tighten them, or even if it just doesnt feel right. this is what happens when it goes pop:

not an easy fix, holes drilled in floor, then new bolt welded in place. so if it feels soft, just stop!

Btw....using a jack with a block of wood on it, I couldn't jack the car up high enough to get a big enough gap between the body and chassis. The chassis would always eventually start lifting up as well. So I had to use a jack with a rubber plank on it between the chassis and the body to force the body and the chassis apart.

Did anyone else face this problem?

If you lift one side only at a time the bolts will be on quite an angle and you will have trouble getting them to line up. Lift one side up all the way, but also lift the opposite side enough to take out some of the angle created by the total lift on the side you are trying to bolt up. Make sense??

X2.

It's a nightmare to get the bolts lined up again if you crank the body up far enough on one side to get the blocks in.

Yeah I understand where your coming from now haha. After I had that isse I tried lofting the whole body up at once but couldn't get it to move enough to get the bolts in. It's really bloody annoying theyre all off by like 5-10mm.

I'll buy a pry bar today, lift the whole front of the car and try and maneuver it into place then I'll do the bolts up finger tight and work my way down the car. The whole body has shifted across the chassis on an angle so I need to push the front of the car from the drivers side towards the passengers side and the rear of the car from the passengers side to the drivers side.

This is really annoying.

Cheers guys

So I took all the body lift blocks out and dropped it back to it's original height. The bolts kind of line up now. I stripped the front passenger side hole, so now I'm just going to take it to a mechanic, cbf trying to fix it myself.

Thanks for the help guys
