Post subject:  G16A head on a G16B block

I have picked up a G16B block out of a '92 Vitara to put in a '89 Vitara

The block is in need of a rebuild (big end knock).

My plan is to put the head off the G16A on to the rebuilt G16B block.

Would also be interested if anyone else has done the same & what was the outcome

I have done a search here & found there are 2 different sets of pistons (1 for the 8 valve & different ones for the 16 valve heads)

Would it matter which rebuild kit I got ? there is only a $10 difference but what should I be buying pistons to suit the block or the head ?

Also what timing belt would be required one to suit a G16A or G16B ?
Thanks in advanced

It should be fine.

AFAIK you can run an 8v head on a 16v block, but not the other way around, as the 8v pistons don't have enough valve reliefs. ( but you could always buy 16v pistons for the 8v bottom end....)

yeah thats exactly what i have, I'm using 16v pistons, on the notion i may one day go efi.

The G16B timing kit is wider then the A do you have the crank timing belt pulley for the G16A? just use that and do the whole thing up as a G16A with the timing cover and everything for the A.

Any other questions about the setup feel free to ask, though it was all very straight forward
