well, after having the carry tank out numerous times in the last couple of days to clean the in tank filter i have had enough. My tank is full of red dirt/rust caked on everywhere i cant reach after sitting for four years so how the hell can i get it clean.
I was thinking of removing the in tank filter on the bottom of the fuel pump assembly and running a in line filter somewhere with easier access so i can just change it over when im on the side of the road stuck again, but will this stuff the pump if it sucks shit through it ?
I have been told i should try some CLR with some blue metal in the tank and swirl it round then repeat numerous times and remove the bluemetal but this sounds a bit dodge to me, can i just use caustic soda or acid or something ?
I will attempt to fix it tmoz
oh and tank is weird shape so i cant just get another one or use one of the 2 sierra tanks i have laying round.

Did this a few years ago. I removed the fuel pump and sender. Blocked the pipes up and sandblasted the inside of the tank. It was then flushed with water for many hours, before being dried with 4L of metho. I then had the tank 'sealed' with a special liquid poly liner. Its alot of work, but if the tank is rare, what choice do you have?

FZ is on it
I know guys who have put a bunch of gravel in, added some kero and then shook the piss out of it. Use some metho/rubbing alcohol after you are done to get the water out
I myself had a rust bad one. Lumps of gelatin rust were coming out. Several coins at the DIY high pressure ca rwash and I was golden. I used "heet" to get the water out when I was done
a liner is a good idea.

yeah it's bloody good gear, industrial strength chemicals that will have you licking the walls in no time while burning the skin off you...
i used it with great success on the tank in my mk1 cortina wagon which was 1 of 14 privately imported into australia back in the mid 60's... the cortina register had it down as one of 8 that were still some what complete, so finding spare parts was somewhat challenging.
i'm going to go & kick myself in the nuts a few times just to remind me that i'm a fuckwit for selling it.

yup rusty as fuck inside i will try blue metal and high pressure wash in the morning with maximum metho afterwards to see if that improves the state of it. Playing with fuel is 2nd to diff/gbox oil in my most hated substances list, not enjoying this at all
