Take the air cleaner hat off the carby and make sure both of the throats are opening on throttle. Pull the main fuel line off and stick in in a bottle and make sure that there is sufficient fuel pressure (if not replace fuel pump). It sounds like a fuel related problem, if its not the pump i would bet you've got crap in the jets and need to clean the carby out again

Slight chance it could be a fuel pump, but the symptoms are usually not at idle.

What happens when you hold the throttle just above idle? Does it run smooth or shake and carry on? DOes it do it all the time? Both hot and cold?

Most likely the idle jet is blacked again or wasn't cleaned properly. Ive also had issue with the fibre gaskets is the new kits coming apart as soon as you put them in the carb, blocking teh idle jet near straight away

Hey mate no expert by any means but is it running an auto choke if so it could be stuck like mine was mine actuall had a dent in it but is now fixed and Idles fine but it was doing exactly what yours is doing

Have you checked to make sure the gasket between the carb and manifold is ok and also the one between the manifold and head

ohk so i dont do the webber but ill have to try the swapping leads over again but it sure seems harsh on my engine to do that isnt it?

yer might be the go has anyone ever done ny damegae doing thhe lead swapping trick

ok so here goes im having alot of trouble with my 92 sierra 1.3L witch has a reco motor and a recond gearbox, overhauled carby all been done by a machenic, the problem is i cannot get it to idle or even backing down gears and braking it will just stall i have been back to the mechenic 3 times now and this morning he told me he wont look at it again (so hes pretty damm confused) i have swapped carbon canisters over, replaced fuel filters ( one in the rear wheel arch and one near the carby), cleaned out the fuel tank, been tuned and timed, and i run premium unleaded fuel, also tried swapping the leads over and cranked it (think its called the french tune if i remember right) please help me troubleshoot my sierra cheers in advance

I like the auto choke idea, mine was playing silly buggers for a bit. this is why I'm going to EFI.. I'm over carby issues!

The liquid is just condensation/soot. To check if its not the choke, check to see if the choke flap is wide open in the carb throat once the engine is warm

Dont do it ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Have you checked to make sure the gasket between the carb and manifold is ok and also the one between the manifold and head Sounds to me like it has a major air leak and is leaning out

Have you got anyone close by you can borrow a good working carby off to test run? I discovered that the entirety of my engine running problem is in the carby by swapping anto86's carby onto my zook and going for a run. When we couldn't replicate the problems we decided it was the carby on mine! It did not help the fact that it burns oil however...

I had the same kind of problem mine was blocked jets I just swapped the leads onto the wrong plug so it would backfire which cleared it out now it runs good

My carby sierra would not run right on premium, motor cycle racing mates told me it is too dense for small jetted carbies. Mine was doing same thing. After a tank of 91ron all ran perfectly. Worth a try.

Give it a go, if it works it won't always fix the problem just blow whatever has blocked the jets back into the bowl. You will need to open it up and clean out the fuel bowl or it will happen again.

Start the car (in neutral with handbrake on as usual when looking into the engine bay...) With bunched up rag in hand, rev the engine a touch (not much just above idle will do) and cover the carby with a rag, remove it before it stalls and repeat a few times. You will probably need to rev the engine a few times as you put the rag over so it sucks all the crap through. Only needs one person, easy to rev from the engine bay. Don't go revving the shit out of it. Also, better to do it outside because of the exhaust, I set off our smoke alarm once.
