Post subject:  BenT Power steering kit Installation pics NEEDED

Hi all i'm looking at putting Power steering on my 95 Sierra, and would like some pics of the BenT powersteering wedge kit installed.

The reason i need pics is because i have welded my Bullbar Mounts onto the front chassis tube and need to know if this kit will still fit.

Also does my 1995 Sierra have a collapsable steering column?

and what belt do i need to run?

Cheers

Conrad

The wedge shouldn't take up anymore room than the dimension of the base of the steering box if that makes sense? If a steering box fits now, which I assume it does, it should fit with a wedge. I have about a 5mm gap between wedge and chassis tube

Collapsable steering columns are a coily thing.

Belt size. Mine is a 830/4PK

So they are good for something then

So does mine have a collabsable shaft or not, cos mine is a Wide Track or so i think it is.

How can i tell if it is collabsable? Just so i can check.

They both have rag joints. A colapsable shaft is a 2 piece shaft, one fits tightly into the other with plastic pins holding it in place. The other version is a single piece shaft

You are only going to require the wedge itself and the bolts for it. I dont think think that the adapter for the pump is going to line up on your 1600. Do you have the baleno pump and bracketry?

Try contacting BenT and see if you can buy a half kit?

Your paying all the money for the wedge itself. The brackets and a couple of bolts are worth nothing compared to the machine time etc to mill the wedge from a single piece of metal

Actually, even with the 1600, you still need the pump mount adaptor, as the pump position on the Vitara is right down low on the block, and in a Sierra the pulley will hit the radiator mount on the chassis.
If this radiator mount has been cut off the chassis to change to a different radiator etc, then you can get away without it.

The pump mount adaptor fits both the 1300 and the 1600.

I do sell just the wedge and bolts though for people with modified rad mounts / different engines etc.

My zook has retained the stock 1.3 radiator, so will i need the bracket for this?

If you are using the Vitara pump, then yes, would need the complete kit including the pump mount bracket.

Its been a while since I've seen a Baleno pump and mounting bracket, so I'm not sure if the Baleno pump would fit and clear everything, and not require the pump mount bracket. I do remember they have a smaller pump, so may not have enough flow, although if I remember correctly they have a smaller pulley, so this may make up for it.

The best solution is probably to get the whole kit and use the Vit pump.

My 91 swb wt had colapsable shaft

My 88 lwb wt did not. But does now due to ps conversion.

Drill the 4 plastic dowels 3mmish deep and hammer away. (if you need to extend or retract it) It will be very stiff because there is a big moulded plastic section in the middle moulded arount the shaft, inbetween the outer and inner shaft.
