just wondering i have a 2inch body and 2 inch spring lift on my 94 w/t sierra i ran 31x10.5 with really offset rims always had bearing troubles sucked lots to say the least, just wondering what rims people run as i want to run a set of maxxis big horn 30x 9.5 but i dont want to have constant bearing troubles i have the g16b conversion also a lot of people run f100 rims do they have troubles on the road driving with bearings just want to make the right choice i was thinking a 7 inch rim with the f100 offset what is it -13? will i have bearing troubles with this? also dont want any scrubbing or anything planning to tow a small camper trailer up beach ect also any help would be great thanks.

i ran 15x7 -15 for years with no hassles... had 15x7 -38mm on for nearly 9 months now and still no signs of bearing wear.

I reckon he means MUD but is confusing it with offset.

no hardly did any mud work i mean wheel bearings always coming loose and needing replacing afte 6 months all the time but was doing a lot of road driving i think they were -43 although and they were kumho kl71 tyres 31x10.5 r15

The size of the tyre has very little effect on wheel bearing life.

Offset does but considering that standard Sierras can get upwards of 100,000Km out of the original bearings then even with massive offset rims you'd have to be not fitting them correctly to get any less than 30-40,000Km* out of a set.

Is your trouble just front bearings or all 4 corners?


* Road KM's only... Offroad conditions IE:Mud will considerably reduce this.

Are you setting them up with a torque wrench or by feel? There's a pretty specific procedure in the FSM, and if you follow it, they seem to last pretty well.

If you're going by feel, odds are you'll be too loose and they won't hold tension. The outer nut get REALLY cranked up tight.

yeah we only sorta did them up by feel didnt have a torque rench on hand so the offset and tyres dont really bother the bearings much just wasnt too sure thats all just a few people have told me its because of the offset i was running maybe ill go back to 31 then with 6.5 gears and get a shop to do the bearings.

i had that a while ago where after the bearing were replaced they came loose after a day or so... turns out the junior at the shop that did them did it by hand and not using torque... when i took it back they replaced the bearings and did it properly.

oh ok sweet haha thanks heaps for your help guys i was definantly on the wrong track i loved the wideness the offset rims gave but maybe i wont go as big get the bearings done right then run 30's or 31's again how do people feel about the maxxis bighorns neways?

You choose an offset when you buy them. Although some people have the centre of the rim cut out and flipped to gain a bigger offset.

Well it's dependent on your needs. For me, WT Sierra, 31's on 15x8 rim and I have a negative 23 offset.
