Great site It actually helped me decide on the zook.Have been a visitor a few times but now needing some serious advice. Own a 1996 Maruti tray and some dirt so this has been the best buy after having rolled an atv on flat gnd
Probably would have saved a hit from a red light camera last week too The starter has just begun to whir? and not turn the engine (intermittent) Noticed it will start the engine while in gear, clutch out (stuck so had to try all options). Battery ok ignition ok wiring ok Also the question is how do I get the flammin starter out (1Lt Engine) Can I get it up through the hoses or do they have to come off. Any other ways Sorry men I do elect not mechanics. Really hoping to do some off road this break but ......... Appreciate your thoughts Thanks |

Hi mate. Welcome. The starter needs replacing. It is held in by 2 bolts that go into the gearbox bellhousing. Just undo the wires that are attached to the starter, and remove the 2 bolts. You should be able to do this from above. Pete |

Thanks Fatzook When you say starter needs replacing. What do you think might be the fault with the starter that it cant be fixed. Just that funds are a bit ordinary at the moment. So thought I might be able to have a go at it, of course as long as it isnt the wiring inside. Neil |

I had the same problem I reckon Starter wouldn't turn engine over only in gear Try retard your timing abit until she winds over If it does work then it's stuff like fatzook said |

I'd wager that the magnetic switch is not 'throwing' the pinion gear as it should. This happens when everything inside the starter wears out. If it were just making a clicking noise, you could replace the solenoid. But yours sounds terminal |
