Hey zooker!
I just puchashed my 3 zook in a the last year! My first was an 91 Sierra soft top and my second a 02 Jimny! Missing my Sierra so much after a regretful sale I found another one on eBay and the price was right

This is my mods list of what I want to do I just want to know what brands I should go where to get them Ect.

2inch body
2inch springs
Full custom bar work
Lock right in the rear. (which I have from previous sierra)
Chinasoong air locker up front
Chromos up front.
1.6 efi conversion
And reduction gearing
And a set of 31 mtz or maxxis mudzillas


What I really want to know is. What spring and shock combination
And what t case gears. I have had my heart set on 6.5s but where I live is open to anything from a weekend in the snow. To a day in the rocks so I don't wanna limit my self with over reducting. This car will also be my dedicated daily so I want it to be reliable and decent on fuel!


Any ideas/ help will be great

the only place you can have to much reduction is if you do alot of beachwork, but with 31"s, 6:5's and a 1.6 you should be fine

I would think that 4.9's would be great with the torque of a 1.6 and 31's. Highway-Star is running this combo and is working really well for him. 6.5's with the 1.6 engine would be too low for snow and stuff.

I agree with little jeep 4:xx gears in the transfer case would work well for you.

6:5's if you don't do beach work or like to drive very slow offroad. With 6:5's you wont have any wheel speed off road. They are a crawling only setup in low range.

I think 6:5's would make you way too slow on the road, and not spin the wheels fast enough for anything that requires wheel speed.

You dont have to worry about beach driving in vic unless you plan on a big fine or traveling long distances to where you can!
You the bush above where you are 6.5s or 4.9 will be fine.
I would suggest a good transfer case bracing unless you plan on getting stuck!

Well I do a lot of mud driving! So maybe 5xx will be the go! What's you opinion on springs and shocks

There's tons of opinions on here about springs and shocks.

Personally, I think if you are after a bolt on, OME is the go, but someone on here will recommend every brand available - there's only so much you can do with stock spring and shock lengths, and it's not very much. The front suspension is designed for 5" of travel and the rear 6", and you won't get much beyond that with stock spring locations and stock shock mounts.

If you're locked front and rear it doesn't make much difference to capability anyway, suspension mods once you are locked are mostly there to improve balance, and RUF improves balance 45857858X more than any bolt on suspension.

Get some gearing ans sort out your suspension and just drive it and enjoy it.

Then look into lockers and eng conversion.

well i already have a rear locker. im building this as a bit of a show/ weekend toy. i have a turbo diesel patrol as well to have fun in:-)

1.6 and 31s is what i run, and i run 5.14 tcase gears... this bring the gearing just slightly above standard, which the 1.6 well and truly overcomes.

my thoughts on gearing would be definitely the 5.14 with 31s.. the low range is super low and hgih range is bang on without being too revvy.

personally though in you case i'd go springs and RUF and rather than a bodylift do a virtual lift (mega guard chop).

leave the front locker out for the time being and learn to drive it first, i reckon if i had a front locker in mine id mostly be bored driving the tracks i drive (it'd take the challenge out of them) and given that i'd most likely roll it trying to do something interesting... so for me a front locker is out of the question, but i daily drive mine also.

With the rear up front does tha mean you used your standard springs of do you use after market

Some people use aftermarket rears and others use standard rears.

Depends on your shackle length and if you are doing a Chassis ext.

Search for RUF and you will find LOADS of info.
