Post subject:  corolla tech! and also some general stuff

hey guy's i know this is a zook web site, i do understand that, but i have a 92 carb corolla, i have an issue with starting it. it was driving rough, like would try to cut out and splutter when i put the boot in, but would regain rev's when i got off of the throttle. Then it would konk out then if i pumped the throttle the car wouldn't start, but if i let it fuel itself then all would start again. now it just won't start. There is no spark at the coil, and i have all the fuses checked, i have good power up to the coil, but nothing from the lead.... i replaced the coil with a stock repco replacement part, and with a spare GT40 coil..... still nothing.

so the only reason i post this up here is because the dizzy is pointless like a sierra. If i read the books right the dizzy needs to send a signal to the coil to initiate the second coil that sends the boosted charge to the spark plugs... is that right? all i can think is if something inside the dizzy has died and and now no charge is being sent to the coil to start it...

thanks to whoever replies, im the for man at work for a week and this is the worst time for my car to break down :(

the distributor creates a pulse (drops to earth) which collapses an electro magnetic field in the coil which induces a voltage in the secondary winding of the coil.

by the sounds of it there us no pulse to the coil - (negative) do you have access to another dizzy?

you may be able to by the parts and replace them but it is usually easier and cheaper to buy a 2nd hand dizzy

There should be 2 wires into the dissy, you want one to have power on it with the ignition on and the other hopefully to be the same colour as the negative terminal on the coil.

Put a test light across the + and - terminals on the coil, crank it and see if the light flashes, if so its a coil or downstream fault, if not and you have power to the coil and to the dizzy its in the dizzy somewhere.

ok, it's all fixed, and thanks again to everyone minus timmay (you need to reply to me message... :D ) there is two wires that come from the dizzy, these go into a box which then has two other wires which connect upto the coil.... that little box or the igniter was tested then replaced and the problem is solved. so not the dizzy but not far off :)
