i have a g16a in my sierra and the carby is giving me trouble it is idling rough and sometimes when u pull up at intersections it will cut out but not always i have checked all the vacuum lines and cant find any leaks any help would be good thanks |

Blocked idle jet is my guess. A back yard way to maybe clean it is to swap number 4 and 1 lead over. Then take off your carb hat and start it. Give it a rev to about 2500 and let it idle again. It will bang and bang a few time but normally cleans the crap out of it. Do that 3 or 4 times then swap leads back the correct way. Now that's the bush way of doing it but might get you out of trouble for a short time. The big fix is to do a full carb refit. If are not sure how to rebuild it DON"T cause the next thing you will post up is my carb is stuffed. Get it rebuild by someone that knows what they are doing or pay a GOOD shop to rebuild it. |

Mine did this for about 4months, when it did actually idle it ran like crap and used sh!t loads of fuel. What actually happened was the mixture screw gone missing, put a new mixture screw in and got it tuned and she was apples. |

Mines done this from landcruiser park to brisbane, stalled at every stop and run crap on the highways. What bruce said works, mine hasn't done in since. |

It is using a lot of fuel as well. The mixture screw is still in there i might try swapping the leads round and see what happens. Thanks for the advice i will keep you updated on what happens cheers |

Mine did this when I first got and doing the lead swap thing only fixed it for a while. After replacing all the filters and changing petrol stations the problem went away. It still does it once in while after 4wding so I just pull over, swap the leads, give it a quick rev and she goes away. I've heard of others pulling the top off the carb and manually choking the carb with a rag while someone revs the crap out of the engine but I haven't seen this work very often. |

It does work and you can do it by yourself by pulling back on the throttle linkage on the carby. (ie you don't need someone on the accelerator pedal).
