Okay so basically im sick of breaking my back on every 4wd trip i go on.
so wondering how to make the ride softer, but also sick of my complete lack of articulation im lucky if i get 2" of movement.

Im running 2" king springs, stock shocks and standard shackles and a 2" body lift.

I do NOT! want extended shackles. and im stuck with my bodylift and cant remove it as a lot of things have been modified to fit around it already.

its a 92WT swb ute chop.

Tires are 235/75/R15 on -24 sunnies (2 spares on -22)

so how to i soften the ride and get a heap more flex without spending big money?

remove leaves from the packs, and replace your shocks with long travel ones.

which leaves should i remove? say the bottom 2 from each pack?

what are long travel shocks worth?

I told you those packs were hard as!!! Remove the bottom most leafs til your left with the 3 top ones. That will be a good start!

I run full packs of Kings 2" springs and mine uber flexy :lol:

NT spacing with WT axels helps though :P

Mate, the longer the spring and the linger the shock the further your diff can move... with that said, you need to use light duty springs to be able to bend them with such a light car.

Mazda 323 rear wagon springs are a good one ive read.

geez i got more than that before i removed my sway bar... speaking of which, have you removed that? i gained at least 3" of downtravel. only difference driving onroad ive found is that the steering is slightly heavier at speeds over 50km/h... by slightly i mean not enough to bother me....

I have removed the sway bar but still have like no flex,

Ill defs pull some leafs out of the packs as they are like rock.

i dont get any downward travel if i jack the car up the wheels barley fall down!

and i mean i have an arb bar on the front with a 40kg winch!

the back i cna understand as theres next to no weight there coz its a small tray so i might take out an extra spring there over the front?

If you have not down travel i bet your shocks are too short. Standard shocks are at nearly full extension with a 50mm lift garanteed. This will cause shit house ride as the shocks "top out" at every chance they get. Flex your car, take some photo's, then drop the bottom mounts off each shock and flex it again. Take photo's and then comapre. Post up if you want some ideas too 8)

Toyota Hi-ace rear shocks in the rear and Commodore wagon rear shocks in the front is a good cheap solution. Not the best but on a budget its not too bad. Been fitting this shock combination to zooks for about 8 years now.


SWB sierra's naturally have a bad ride. The short wheel base, coupled with short springs that have a high frequency will cause poor ride quality by design. RUF helps as the rear springs have a much lower frequency than the front ones.

wen i fit the 2" lift and shackles in my old soft top we had to get people to sit in the back to get the stock shocks fitted back up to get me home haha.NOT good ride :lol:
