hi i have a 1983 1.0 Suzuki Sierra and the engine has no go in it up hills even on straights. so i would like to know are there any mods i can do to the original engine to give her a bit more go is there any carbys that would it without any mods or are there any other good mods available without changing the engine over because its only just reached 70,000 ks

Its a little old 1,000cc engine, most motor bikes have a bigger engine. Its not really going to make much difference what you do.

Add a bigger carby, and get say 10% more power, but, 10% of fukall is after all, not very much.

Cost will be high for very little gain, IMO go for a bigger donk.

Id be checking timing, spark, full service. Then go from there.

She is a brick with a 1L..

With my slow 1.1 Corolla i am very understanding of her.. But still quicker than a 1.3 sierra!

Tune it and put quality oil in it, 1 litres are a ripper engine when running right

You will need to correct your gearing with bigger tyres. More power would help, but not as much as gears.

Size isn't everything, how big do you think a Formula One engine is ????

turbo's are the cheapest way to gain good power in the long run but a good tune will do heaps for the car

Ordinarily I would say this is true. But most reliable add-on turbo systems will nett a 40-50% gain.

On a 1L sierra motor, this equates to 16kw or less. Which gives a total of 49kw assuming that the 1L still has the factory supplied 33kw. (which it won't)

So at the end of the day you've spent heaps, stressed your probably already tired motor, and only come out of it with the same power as a good 1.3L carby sierra.

WTF is the point?

1600 all the way.

get a suzuki swift motor (not sure what model) but its efi and you can get a turbo model.

AND IT ALL BOLTS UP !!! NO ADAPTOR PLANS OR ENG MOUNTS NEEDED

I WISH I KNEW ABOUT THIS EARLIER

but if you if you wanna keep 1L here is what you should do
Gap plugs
sandblast plugs
make sure your timing is correct
Tune/check carby
set tappets
change oil and filter while you are at it

but to be honest this really wont make much difference in performance.(well not enough anyway)

when it comes down to it your going to need lower gears or more power or both.

Yes it is. And this can be done to ANY motor given the right amount of knowlege and money.

there was a turbo 3cyl swift, in what we would cal the GA swift

think it was a G10 base not an F10 though

And we got that here?

I know of a few people that used to import them as front cuts or long motors, but never actually saw a swift with OEM fitment... :?

Post subject:  Re: engine mods

im sure we didnt get em, but that was the only factory fitment i could think of, G10 turbo sounds great my first car was a standard G10 and that would sit on the speed limit no worries, but could also return 4L per 100km too

I am a bit confused here.

I have seen, on this site, not you Fats, but many others, saying, that they can get 140kph out of a 1l. an that the 1l is far superior to a 1.3l coz it revs very well. I have also read that a 1.3 is far superior to a 1.6l (same deal) coz it revs far better.

SO, I am led to believe, er ?, that a 1l donk is far superior than a 1.6l, because of, or maybe something, revs.

I chase hp at every chance, my 1.3l is a ripper, goes like a cut snake, my mates 1.6l beats me, but from what I have read here, fuk the both of them, bung in a 1l and you will be far better off. ???, even unto a 1.6l with near 3 times the power.

Maybe I have had too many brews.

Post subject:  Re: engine mods

1.0 litres are tougher and better designed than the 1.3- they'll take more revs and punishment.

1.3's have more power and torque but are more fragile.

1.6's have more power and torque again but don't rev as hard (longer stroke)

IMHO I quite like the 1.0, I just don't like the tiny clutch and crappy 3.0:1 1st gear in the gearbox.

Good 1.0's are getting hard to find now.

PS the G10 Turbo might bolt in, but that's like saying a 660cc is a bolt in. It is, but it doesn't mean it not a complex conversion for other reasons - wiiring, cooling, fuel system etc. (not to mention legality)

Steve.
