at the monent my sierra runs the standard steering dampener and was thinking of purchasing the tough dog return to centre coil over item and was wondering if it is as simple as just swapping them over or does some other adjustments need to be made?

I ran a tough dog TRC dampener until it fell off at Zig Zag.
3 years later I still have no dampener and all is well.

no, they are not necessary. It actually made my steering heavier.

and it will because of the spring forcing in no matter what direction you steer to.

I have one on suziblu, love it, far better than the stock (buggered) one, and far better than the Rancho I have on my other toy.

Lumpa, on road yes, but offroad where you hit ruts n boondies n shit, stops the wheel tearing out of your hands.

If its not returning by itself, at all, get a wheel alignment.

if your alignment is good and caster ok you shouldnt need a dampner.
Ive run without one for a year know on my NT , borrowed a mates one to try out and no difference. thats with strong arm steering as well.
Stock location doesnt really have much affect on damping due to its where its mounted.
