I've somehow screwed up the back door lock. I've somehow pushed the tongue backwards on the latch and now it won't rotate back to its normal position and hence won't engage as per normal, ie I can't close the rear door.

I've tried the key in the rear & drivers door, central locking. Nothing.

Is there a way to free up the tongue/latch?

tried lifting the handle.... i just went & did the same thing to mine, pushing the latch mecho right in & lifting the handle flicks it back.

unless it's a coily/GV thing, if so.... may i suggest selling it.

get some one to hold the handle up like your opening the door (make sure its not locked.)

slip a screw driver into the hole, and tapp it sideways with a hammer

Hellefukingluyah!!! Atari I'm going to give you the biggest blowie of your life.

The handle trick didn't quite work as the plastic tongue behind the handle flexed a little too much, so I engaged it from inside of the door (the horizontal silvery rod thing in the pic) instead.
