| Post subject: | cromos and lockrite?front |
hey all just a quick question regarding the deal at locktup at the moment on cromo fronts with lockrite. i am considering getting these for my zuk, have never broken anything but just wanna improve it a bit and a front locker cant hurt to much. I have g16b and vit PS but am just wondering what others with front lockrites think of them??ive only ever driven welded front(in a mates and hated it) or airlocked front in my hilux which doesnt count any help would be great.i know arb would be better but i wont spend that much on the poor old zuk. |

I am currently running that setup (g16b, no PS, lockrite 1510 in rear, 1530 in front with 26spline crmo shafts and cv's). I had never busted a cv before, but with the extra strain of the locker i thought it was worth it. The biggest difference ive noticed (other than the extra capability) is the obvious much heavier steering, and when locker doesnt disengage, it can have the turning circle of a crane truck. I notice when im driving at speed along muddy tracks especially, you do have to work the wheel a lot more as it causes zook to wander a lot more i guess maybe due to extra grip. I generally take it out of 4wd when i dont actually need it due to the hard steering, then when i see a difficult obsticle ahead i just slip it straight from 2wd to 4wd while still moving in a straight line so both shafts are moving the same speed (so it slips into 4wd smoothly with no crunching). |

thanks PJ for your reply.I am just a bit worried about taking it from quite a manoverable little car to a POS. id like to drive someones with the same setup but Tamworth zookers are a dying breed |

Power steer makes a heap of difference. I run a Falcon PS pump and Cruiser box and dont even notice mine is in there, presumably the Vit PS would be the same. |

Nah Lockright front, Detroit rear. Used to be Lockright rear as well, changed to the Detroit because it came with 5.12 Vit gears. Would happily go either again, however mine isnt road driven. |

i have put a lockrite in the front of mine. went so much harder with front lock as well as welded rear. But it also made a huge differance to steering, does not like to turn with the front locker in. i am looking at getting twin sticks. I have vit PS too and it is still fine to turn, i didnt really notice a change. i dont know if you have installed a lockrite but you dont replace the carrier. you use the same carrier and just replace the sun gears. do you have a 4 pinion carrier? |

yeah sorry man dunno what i was on about with the hole carrier thing. No i havent ever fitted one nor have i got a 4 pin carrier.just a standard 2 pin front.Do they do locrites for these??? Yeah i am worried about mine with steering but dont see myself going over 31s whereas your truck has been on 33s and now 34s.When aeren owned it he ran welded front and always broke it lol.

Mines in a 2 pin front, it is exactly the same locker just uses less parts. |

yours had the 4 pin carrier cos of the NT centres i guess. Thanks once again,if the steering isnt any or much heavier even ill give it a go.If the circles worse ill have to live with it,still cant be any worse than my hilux, especially if i leave front air locker in.Good luck getting it to do anything lol |

just been on locktup....so 1510 is without couplers and standard front 22 etc 1530 is the one id need for running the cro mos and 26.??? |

Yes 1510 will fit front or rear as it reuses the stock side gears. 1530 comes with 26 spline side couplers, so must go in the rear or in the front with the cromo's. The combo pack is only being advertised with the 1530 anyway http://locktup4x4.com.au/suzuki-sierra- ... r-269.html |

you cannot put them straight in the front. they use the stock side gears and carrier, so you would need a set of 26 spline side gears and a 4 pin carrier to use it with the chromo axles |

yeah yeah got that bit.if i came across another carrier to use for the rear id probably try one.Welded rear atm but think id just end up with a spool i pretty much daily my zuk these days and the locked rear doesnt bother me too much |

I've got the 2 pin lockrite in the front of my sierra and it's friggin awesome when you need a locker.... friggin heavy steering when you don't. Never snapped anything though... maybe i'm not trying hard enough |
