There was a "double air locked hilux" in the paper on the weekend so i went and had a look but then saw these big clunky air switch levers with "Roberts" printed on it. Having never heard of that i was a bit cautious.

The dude selling the car said Roberts was the original ARB airlocker, but i thought he had sniffed too many paint fumes.

So i just did a google search and found this.... wow eh...

quote:
Originally known as 'The Roberts Diff Lock' after the inventor Tony Roberts, it was renamed the ARB Air Locker in 1988. Tony Roberts' background lay in aircraft engineering and he was an avid recreational 4WD enthusiast who started working on the concept back in the early to mid 1980s. Its development process began with the Air Locker being vacuum operated with subsequent mechanisms being trialed. The final prototype was based on compressed air operation and has evolved from incorporating only five applications to well over one hundred.

All air locker part numbers start with RD, like RD75 and RD88 (suzuki lockers).

RD stands for Robert's Diff.
