I have been looking at rear disconnects, just got some questions.
do they give anymore vibration?
Can you put and extra 25mm of length into a rear drive shaft and not have it bottom out?
Do they become noisy and chatter?

Not sure if anyone is running one, but keen to hear ideas and thought about it all.

and yes i know i will need to run a line lock to the rear to make it work, i have been looking at this as an option line lock

i know i will need to run a line lock to the rear to make it work What makes you think you'll need a line lock kit.. You don't need to lock the rear wheels to do a front dig.. WT handbrake will do that anyway.

Wot he said. I've had mine in my car for a couple of years now. I've pulled it out once to service it, but it's quiet and trouble free.

Not as useful for digs as you'd imagine though - they don't work like they do in the movies It takes lots of practice to get a feel for when they are going to work. The car does turn noticeably tighter even if not "digging" though.

It helps greatly if your handbrake works well, or you could run a line lock on each rear wheel maybe ? However a disc brake rear would be alot better I would think. They are fairly exposed to the elements and so mine has gone a nice shade of rust brown but a quick spray with CRC or Lanotec whenever I am under the car is enough to prevent anything siezing.

Um, sweet, it's going on my lwb so im keen to keep all the good car like qualities it has e.g. no auto lokka.

I thought that line locks would be used to stop the rear wheels from turning, and i was pretty sure that the WT drum brakes wouldn't be able to hold it... Ill have to weld on all the hand brake mounts now as i cut off and threw away all the hand brake stuff.

Also i thought that line locks the electric version would be a hand brake, I would never trust it to work as a hand brake on hills, but it's cool having another button

For short periods of time sure, but I think they need constant power to stay shut, which is no good for longer periods.

Would depend how you wired them wouldnt it ? Through the accessories then yes it would turn off with the ignition, however directly to the power they would stay on as long as the battery has life in it depending how much power they use. Line locks are only as good as the brakes they work on, so they will only be as effective as your rear drums are.

i had realised that they would only last as long as the battery stays on, ok i want rear disks anyway, so a good excuse does anyone know how much joe's disk kit cost?

just install cutting brakes and have an extra two levers.

Buttons suck ass, Levers are where it's at. Twin stick transfer, rear disconnect, cutting brakes and you're up to six. SWWEEEEETTTTTTT

Disconnects drive to the rear diff so car is (temporarily) front wheel drive only.
