I run Z172 filters on both Gv's and had not had any problem with them. Running 20w40 shell mineral oil. I try to steer clear of any oils with addatives they seem to gunk up the engine.
Just went and checked the Z172 filter from the last oil change. There is a valve. if you look into the bottom of the filter it will look straight back at you.

I was given a carton of them a few years ago from a mate who worked in a Nissan Stealership, I used my last one today... I'll have to see if I can get another box of them.
I always flush my engines, my old pootrol with more than 300,000kms on it would just start carbon up the oil at 7,000. when the head came off the numerous times the internals looked spotless & I my Vitara is the same.

I might give this stuff a go. My car has done 230K now and wouldn't hurt to try.
My car runs LPG now which means the oil should stay cleaner looking for longer, but the three changes i've done so far the oil is as dark as petrol after 5000 kms. An oil flush might be the answer

I can't believe India sells Gypsies new for AU$14000. You could fit 3 in a 60ft shipping container and get them sent here for $1K a car.
I'd pay $15000 (if I had it) for a brand spanking new Sierra (Gypsy) in a flash - if I was wise enough to have bought a Sierra when I was 16yo (and kept it), i'd be wiping my arse with golden squares of toilet paper by now

Someone once put a pic up of the timing chain in the GV V6, and it went up and down a few times in the engine, it almost looked like the out line of a hand, and it was just one continuous chain... and from what i was told, to change that timing chain, one needs to remove the engine to do it, hence the expense of getting it done, at least a couple of grand... but if you have info that says, no it isnt that expensive, then please, share this info !

there are 4 chains, 3 would be "timing chains" & i guess the bottom one is for the oil pump?

Correct - and the timing chains CAN be changed with the engine in the vehicle, but it's easier to take it out and do them outside. The oil pump chain rarely gives trouble.

That ting there is 20 billion time's eayer to work on then zd30 shit box.
in theory thay shouldn't ever need replacing, but for a slight oil feed & ratchet problem thay get noisy & wear..

Heres an oil analogy for you all
Normally I run Motul turbolite 10w40 oil in the vit, every 10k I change it, life goes on
last time round I used Motul power 15w50, thought not a lot of it, bit noisier but oh well
last few weeks the vit has been pinging quite a bit, not changed anything that would effect that so thought I better have a look, starting with changing the oil cause it was almost due and ive seen older swifts do a similar thing
oil changed and what do you know, no more pinging
