sorry joe but Mitsubishi's 10 year drive line warranty negates any benefit

agreed, but then again I would never 4wd a 50k+ car anyway
thats why I own a sierra and look after my good 4wd

I'm looking at getting the Chinasoong for the front of my vit.

Don't think they make one for the rear?

So may get one of these.

RD74 is the ARB part number for a 10 bolt Vitara Rear ARB Air Locker.

I've been looking at a few different model ARB's on their website lately. Seems a heap of the "old" Suzuki model air lockers have received an update. Example, I was looking at RD87 (Jimny 8 bolt front). This has been superseded by an RD207 it seems.
The notable difference seems to be in the locking mechanism, and the related fact that the air supply goes in the crown wheel side of the carrier.
RD87: http://www.arb.com.au/media/products/ai ... 2-RD87.pdf
RD207: http://www.arb.com.au/media/products/ai ... -RD207.pdf

Anyway, the chinese ones seem to all be copies of the "old" design ARB models.

If there i any truth to this then that is excellent news.

The old ford 9 inch ARB side gear will work with an old Suzuki rear ARB for the sierra.

So you can take a suzuki sierra ARB carrier, use ARB's ford 9" side gear part of the locker, and run shortened 9" axles with a higher spline count (27 spline ford 9 inch axles work well from what I remember.

I wonder if chinasoong will sell just the parts if yu need them.

1 sierra rear ARB, and the 9" side gear part of the arb. makes for a hybrid rear.

I'm looking at doing one of these soon, checked the website and it says they are CNC machined.

The way I see it, not all overpriced Aussie products are made in aus, I was looking at coilovers for my lancer last year, got quoted over $2000 by Pedders, and was about to get them when the lancer club had a group buy on BC racing coilovers (china). Turns out BC sell the coilovers to pedders, pedders then put their own springs on and a little paint, and then add $1000 to the price. I got the BC coilovers for $1200

So who's to say that ARB aren't doing the same thing, outsaucing parts then jacking prices

I think it's a good find to get a locker so cheap, keep us posted on how these go guys

I spent days and days comparing part numbers on the earlier lockers listed on ARB's website. I think I found 27 spline Dana 30 or 35 (?) sidegears would fit a Vitara rear. Didn't think it would fit a Sierra? Was purely going off of them having the same locking ring part number though. So my research had its limitations.

"Sideways" said on the thread we have going on another forum about LJ air lockers, that you can buy the Chinese sidegears separate ("RD88" ones anyway).

I want to fit a rear chinasoong locker myself. Can anyone tell me what needs to be welded, drilled or cut to fit it? - I can't weld, and not to good at drilling and cutting, but I could do a good job of all the rest of the installation. So I want to know what needs cutting drilling or welding.

you need to drill the carrier and cut a thread in it for the brass fitting no welding needed

Have seen this a few times the Chinese tend to "inherit" the older castings/designs etc typically from the bin before it makes it's way to the scrap metal yard.

And like alot of other stuff, it tends to be identical apart from following a cheaper process to reduce prices (often but not always)

To the BC coil-over example above. You will find a company like pedders will commission a factory to do a run of x-amount of product. The factory will in fact make 3 times that amount because it costs not much more by the time you add tooling and labour costs into it. What you lose out on in a big way is local support.

I'll give you a tour of the complex in Vic if you like, you can see broaching, machining that all leads to the end product. TJM are the outsource kings!

I'd happily buy one if I needed to replace one of my existing lockers.
Put a mate onto the chinasoong brand after doing some research. He's put them in his 75 series cruiser. Apart from a couple of initial air leaks from installation, they've been bulletproof. He's broken several factory driveline parts (ie: axles/studs) before the locker has let go. And he's far from a gentle driver.

They seem to be well made for a cheap chinese knock off.

Yeah I'm pretty convinced about them. And for $1000 bucks, I can turn it down really.
