Thought I should show off my camper trailer project.
It is specifically designed for beach camping and to be dragged behind a stock engined Jimny.

I started by sacrificing my 1/2 Sierra trailer which had been my first trailer build. It was a fun concept which received heaps of interest but was not practical and was too heavy considering the space provided. Won't even talk about its' aerodynamics.

The axle and draw bar were cannablised from the old trailer, the rest was sold on ebay.

-The axle matched to Jimny axle width.
-Steel frame with Aluminium sheets and checkerplate (All hand folded and cut)
-Tyres 215/80R15 (Half way between 215/75 & 235/75)
-Canvas was bought ready to bolt on and the trailer frame was specifically built to match
-1500kg axle

Floor is all checkerplate folded around chassis to add compartments to stop the load shifting

awesome... any pics of what u did on the inside?

Nothing to see really.

Inside is just for carrying supplies and gear. Weight was the main aim. The Trailer including the canvas camper top weighs 250kg.

All 4 corners and the tailgate open to gain access, plus there's a trap door under the camper bed.

very cool. I had a custom camper built last year. Although mine was a rebuild of a very cheap, almost useless trailer in to an off road trailer with all the bells & whistle's. But you building 1 from scratch is very very cool.cool.

Thanks. I'm rather proud of my efforts.
Not a bad effort for a graphic designer with high school metal work training.

Professional metal fab guys would pick it pieces but I'm happy.

No I threw the rear chassis section away. Worked from the draw bar back using 50x50 square gal pipe. Chassis and frame are part of the same structure, turned out super rigid. The dimensions of the box are 2m x 1.5m which is exactly the size of the frame of the Camper top.

Eventually I'll strap a water tank underneath the front half and also add a double jerry can and toolbox frame to the front.

It was never designed to be towed to Cape York, the suspension is light weight and only meant for beach camping and light to medium, short run off roading. everything was designed with weight saving as the critical factor as I did not want to have to add brakes and wanted to be able to maneuver it by hand myself when necessary.

So far so good. It weathered a really gusty and very wet storm at Moreton on the first outing. I seam sealed it before use and all seems fine. Our friends using our old tent were not so fortunate. They ended up sleeping in the car. It's really easy to erect too.

apart from all the erections, great thread and awesome build, ive always thought about a compact little trailer for the zook, ill just settle with my drawers for now until i need more space

Thought I'd add a few more pics of the build and in action. I surprised myself with the end result and with what I could do with an angle grinder, rubber mallet and a borrowed mig. I started using my Super Cheap arc welder but blew more holes than joining pieces together LOL.

Had just poured the slab under our house. It was the perfect workshop, sadly this space is now our en-suite.
