Post subject:  Jimny (gen 4) Trailer question

Hi

Looking for some advise here. I am slowly building a Jimny for overlanding trips. Using a trailer (5x3) for extra fuel and water worked really well on my recent trip with a Grand Vitara.

Knowing you can only tow 350kg (trying to stay under that)

1- would you guys keep the cage and canvas? removing would save weight at the cost of security at overnight motel stops

2- would anyone know a Sydney (Hornsby) place that would be able to install bakes on my trailer? Not to carry more weight purely for safety and better handeling
all the places I contacted either do only BIG caravans or just never come back to me

Thanks for help!

For the cage and canvas, I'd lean toward keeping them for security, especially since you’re stopping at motels. Peace of mind is worth a few extra kilos. As for trailer brakes, you might want to check out https://www.pedders.com.au/ in Hornsby. They offer a range of services, including brake installations, and could assist with your trailer needs. I found them when I was in Argentina, my guide from https://gowithguide.com/argentina recommend me that one. Good luck with the build, sounds like a fun setup!

I'd definitely keep them, it's not that heavy but probably well worth taking the trailer over a weigh bridge just to know exactly what it actually weighs rather then going off the plate.
Most trailer places here just stamp all 6x4 and under at 200kg, I even saw a motorcycle trailer stamped at that and it was only a 3x4 at most.

That will give you a proper idea how much your actually towing.
