my dad was in the army so his got a proper army swag so is built for any conditions and yet if put on a flat surface the matress is still quite comfy
i wouldn't know how to get one as they have to be secondhand as the army dont sell them...

After finishing school. Ill be going camping more often. I thought it is time to buy a swag. Small nd compact enough you can chuck in the back of the zook nd take of for the week end. Keep you warm and dry. Alot of foot room. Nothing fantsy, just keeping it simple. Budget Between $100 to $250 What have you guys went out and bought or reccomend to buy |

$100-$250 is a very cheap swag. i have a jolly swagman double swag it is their top of the wassa swag and cost over 500. They do however make some nice more simple singles for less. I would be looking for - nice heavy canvas at least on the bottom. -a descent mattress 50mm foam is nice (this is not imperative as you can get that egg crate foam stuff pretty cheap and that is great under the main mattress. -id be looking for one that can be opened up fully and maybe with mozzie netting but can also be closed up and perhaps pitched as a bit of a tent in case the weather gets wet. AOS make arguably the best gear out but you pay huge bucks for it. id say look at a bunch to see all the features out. Oh and haggle can save you heaps .(and despite what you may think it can be used on more than cars and houses in Australia) the shop display model is just as good as any and sometimes cheaper too |

i am pissed mate but will add some good info tomorrow i love my swag, have spent many weeks at a time each night in it, in every kind of weather. even torrential downpours, and i mean like we had 60mm of rain in 12 hours with 120kmph winds and wind chill was -4 will put up some good info in the am when i can think clearly |

i have a sar major swag and it is great to sleep in however for some reason they build there swags backwards so that when they are rolled up dust can get in. my wife has a burke & wills swag and it is smicko. don't worry about all the poofie tent swags, just get a traditional style swag that is made in Australia and also a camp stretcher and you will be laughing. |

I would also recommend a burke and wills. My single swag has been with me for about 10 years now and i only just rewaterproofed it a few months ago. yeah it was a bit of money, but quality lasts and you won't regret getting a good one For my bit, a canvas flood is far better then a vinyl floor as the canvas breaths. I also will put a tarp on the ground if its raining or is wet ground, so you have somewhere to stand when you take your shoes of to go to bed (if you are in a state to stand that is!)

They have good quality ripstop canvas, thick comfy mattress and they are heaps cheaper than the boutique brand swags. I've got a single dingo style one, basic model, but still has insect mesh in the end, and I've also got a double brumby style one for when the missus comes, hoop style with plenty of mesh. I've used them both in some pretty shitty conditions and neither one has leaked or had any other problem. I guess the best endorsement that I can give them is that I will be buying another one for my young fella when he's old enough to have his own swag. Cheers, Nathan |

I got a cheapy wild country one with 3 poles. Only ever really use one. on a rays outdoors special for $99 retails at 400 odd. Has been sensational. Kept me dry in a couple of down pours. Both ends open up on hot nights to let a breeze through. unless your living in it. and it's spending weeks at a time on the back of a Ute copping the elements 24/7 then a cheaper one will suffice. |

My swag was basically a piece of 16 oz canvas stitched together by a tent maker and then adding an single airbed inside, rolls up good and is veery comfortable, have used it for 15yrs and have had no probs except ants that got into it on one trip was not all that great.

i have a jolly swag, matilerd XXL love it. was around $500 with sag bag... but it is bulky... i have slept in the snow in it and all! the only time i ever had a issue was tuff truck and i was laying with the opening up hill and the watter ran in... will NEVER make that mistake again. |
