Hi All, I have a 91 sierra with a G13BA that blows a lot of smoke (burning oil), low compression and seems to be on its last legs. Primarily for farm use (has historical rego). I prefer to keep carby and as stock as possible, so not interested in efi or G16.

Just wondering on some informed opinions about what to replace the engine with. I see there are four options:
1) Buy a fully reconditioned engine.
2) Buy a second hand G13BA or G13A pulled from another sierra
3) Buy a low km barina or early swift G13BA
4) Buy a new chinese motor (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ ... 35adj2U7PD)?

Option 1) is probably more than I want to spend. Option 2) I have found hard to find and have concerns I end up with another lemon. Option 3) also has the lemon concern and requires some messing around changing the east west configuration. Option 4) is the wild card, it looks like the sump might need swapping and a few other configurations changed (but maybe not much more than the barina engine). I figure (perhaps wrongly) that a brand new engine must be better than a 30 year old engine. I found one person drop in a Chinese F10 into a Suzuki SF410. https://exhaust.lewiscollard.com/post/6 ... ki-sj-410/

Interested in peoples opinions/experiences, particularly option (4) versus (3) and likelihood of sourcing an engine under option (2)

The engine you've linked to is an EFI engine which takes different manifolds and drives the dizzy straight out the back of the head. I don't know if you'd be able to make it work, maybe if you swapped the head but I don't know if that's possible with the Chinese bottom end.

Good second hand G13s are hard to find but they do pop up from time to time. Put some wanted ads up on the facebook groups, you might get lucky. But as you say, you might pay a lot of money for a lemon.

If you get a swift/barina engine it's a bit of work but straightforward. You need to swap the sump, manifolds, dizzy housing and cam from your old sierra engine.

Suzistore sell exchange rebuilt engines but they're $3800.

Many thanks for the response. I did notice the manifold was different, but it sounds like "frankenstein-ing" the Chinese motor comes with alot of uncertainty. Will keep searching out for something more stock and prey one pops up before my current engine dies.
