Hey Everyone

I am looking to get another windscreen panel for my 89 Sierra , The passenger side wiper decided to tear its self out of the panel during a good rain event a couple of years back and I have a washer holding the wiper in place and covering the giant hole in the panel at present . I have been looking online and the only supplier I can find is 4x4 parts shop in WA . I often buy a lot of bits through them and they are a great business but in this instance I would like to try to do a bit better on price . They are asking nearly $1000 just for the panel . Ouch !

I can't help with finding a replacement. However, while Panel and paint is never cheap for a quality job, maybe it's worth trying to get it repaired.

When fixing the wipers on my sierra I noticed mine had started to crack in the same place. That was around 2 years ago and it's still fine, but when the time comes I'll just be repairing it myself by welding a new section in, and possibly add some reinforcing from behind. (I can't really remember the arrangement or if that's possible but it's not an overly complicated repair)

Regardless, make sure all the linkages are moving smoothly and are lubricated to help take the stress off the panel a little.

Mine went to shit in a similar way. I priced up another panel and like you, I found it was twice what I paid for my my first Sierra... Which has a good windscreen frame. So I plated over it. Dunno if you still can but you used to be able to buy brace plates for this from places like Low Range OffRoad, it's a really common problem. The plated rapair isn't the best looking thing but mines held up fine.

Beery, mine was only a bit cracked before it let go and it really made a mess. Plus your wipers only die when you need them. I'd fix it sooner rather than later.

I have a big washer covering the hole and more or less keeping the wiper in check , but I am worried rust will form between the metal surfaces and make a bigger mess of the panel making the windscreen leak . I have given the linkages a lube and everything is working ok , I am trying to restore the old girl though and get it looking good . I guess I will have to keep looking for a cheaper panel . Cheers for the input .
