just wanting to ask a quick question for you Suzuki enthusiasts


im just wondering if anyones had any experience in fabricating custom intake manifolds for the little g13a, I’m planning on porting and turbo charging it not to sure of the design I’m wanting to go with yet, possible a double Webber 40 d- somthing- somthing or even somthing interesting like a quad carb setup - bit like this

. And yes I’m aware that this makes it unreliable but I don’t really care since you can pick up g13a’s for 200$ anywhere around Australian

For $200 any G13a is going need $3k spent on it before it’s going anywhere near boost.

Lots of people struggle to find g13’s in serviceable condition they’re all 30 years old now.

What job do you need this engine to do?

I’m upgrading it for power increase since I will be eventually chopping it and putting a trey on it with a canopy, will be adding other stuff that adds weight aswell, and at the moment with stock standard it dosent even get to 100km/h down hill which is not very impressive. Dad dosent care what he spends on the g13a but he cannot for justify engine swapping a g13a or g13bb even though it’s much more conventional.

Trust me, Dad's going to care when the dollars start to add up, and he's going to care the second time you grenade the engine - the fist time it happens you might get a pass, the second time, he's going to ask "didn't we do this already"?

If you seriously cannot get to 100km/h downhill with a "stock standard" Sierra, the engine you've got now is tired and is not going to survive any sort of boost.

By the way, before you write me off as just another "naysayer" - I did once "fly in the face of reason" (as you are doing now) and do a performance build on an 8v G13 - it was in a Swift, and that thing ran like the proverbial bat out of hell, so it is possible to get decent power out of them, but there are limits to what can (or should) be attempted.

One last thing - reliability - the need for reliability in an off road vehicle should be considered as of paramount importance - it's fine to have street & track car that won't survive it's next excursion, a tow truck is within easy reach, the situation changes dramatically once you get off road.

I'm still completely bamboozled by this.

You will need to remove and the G13A that is in the car.

You (or your dad) will be fabricating an EFI wiring loom, and an EFI fuel system anyway.

This is exactly the same work as fitting a G13BB or G13B.

On top of that, you have a whole turbo conversion to build - all extra work on top of swapping in a G13BB or G13B. If the G13BB or G13B is inadequate, they are already better candidates for boost as they flow better and already have injectors, crank and cam and sensors etc.

Your car has an existing problem. Fix that so the car can maintain 100km/h on the highway, because it should be able to easily.

You have a choice about how heavy you make the car. A heavy car is an unreliable car. An G13A that needs to sit on boost all the time to overcome the weight of your car will have a short life. It's a Sierra, not a Landcruiser. Understand what it's good at and if you need the car to do some totally different job, recognise that's why there are different cars for different jobs.
