EFS springs are very stiff, see this thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=57113

would taking a leaf out of the pack help with getting more flex?

Theoretically yes. If you read that thread though, you’ll note the EFS springs were derated (one leaf removed from the front, two from the rear) and it was still excessively stiff.

aside from ome springs, which were the comparison in the other thread, is there any others that you would recommend

I got talked into getting EFS 8 years ago. I just got the springs and got some shocks separately. I don’t find them stiff but the ones in it before were worse. What I don’t like about them is the driver side sagged after 2 weeks of just sitting in the garage, complained got two new ones and it did the same.

I have springs in the rear of Sierra which are identical to EFS just a different branding. EFS springs are imported so there's a couple of different brands on the same spring. I have the top 3 leafs from my set with the bottom leaf from an LJ80 set. It rides well, takes a load well, can reach the bumpstops when flexed and is probably 30mm taller than stock originally was. My front is RUF with stock rears.

I have a set of those ultima shocks. The fronts are longer than they say, about 320 long compressed instead of 300 (to the base of the pin). They will need some bumpstop spacing. I think the rears were fine but shit, that was like 3 or 4 years ago when I fitted them so memory could be wrong.

seems like that kit is fairly rubbish, what shock and spring combination should I be going with? I have a budget of $1000, and want a setup that flexes well, in rocks and ruts. I am currently running 29s on saggy factory springs and tired bushes, so anything is improvement

Old man emu from ARB. I haven't bought them for many years but they were around $450 for a set of springs, shocks should be a similar amount and then you'll need bushes and u bolts. It will flex okay in the rocks and ruts, about as good as can be expected from an off the shelf kit. Remove the front sway bar if you haven't already.
