Gday all I'm looking at swapping the engine out of my coily for something with a little more power and fuel injected for reliability. From what I have read the common swaps are G16b from Baleno or G13b from Swift Gti. But I'm struggling finding recent posts on which is considered the best. I'm hoping to get a complete donor car to do the conversion, so looking for advice on what peoples opinions are? Just for background, it's stock at the moment, and I don't expect to do much, if any rock crawling, just want a fun car to go down the occasional track. Mostly road use. Thanks. |

That's surprising, this gets covered often. Baleno coil-on-plug G16B is by far the best G series swap. Next would be the Baleno with separate coil packs, followed by the Vitara G16B, (the easiest 16B to fit) then the G13BB Jimny (easiest EFI engine to swap in - it's a bolt in) last would be G16A carby and G13B Gti. #facebooktech tells everyone the G13B is hektik because it makes 550rwKw, has two cams, and you can install one in every state of Australia without any sort of engineering approval (all of which is false or misleading) but they're a pretty poor option. They have a distributor in the wrong spot, an airflow meter, and the power band is poorly suited to a 4WD. they're as much work to fit as Baleno G16B (sump, oil pickup, radiator lines) but the end result is an old engine, with less torque, a tiny bit more power, and a powerband that's both too narrow and too high in the RPM range. Basically, the popularity of the G13B swap all about availability early on in the piece - they predate the G16's and the DOHC and myth about bolt in legality is what keeps them popular. If you can find a G13BB, they're a really really easy swap - it bolts in on stock mounts, sump is correct, water piping is correct, as is inlet manifold, fan and exhaust manifold. They're the right engine for a Sierra because they're the engine suzuki put in the Jimny the next year. 60KW. |

There may still be a vitara with a g16b motor complete car at a1 Global wreckers still, I was there a few weeks ago and they had a complete one hidden down the back if that helps. A1 Global Wreckers 84 King Ave, Willawong QLD 4110 |

Really really don't rule out the G13BB. It's a much, much easier swap. If you do that and down the line want more torque, you can drop a G16B long block in it and retain the jimny manifolds etc for a very simple G16 swap. |

Hey Steve, just re-read your original post in this thread and you said the exhaust manifold is the same for the 13bb. The original manifold I have at the moment has a crack in it, is there a manifold/extractors you would recommend that would bolt on to the g13b I have at the moment, and that will also bolt on to a future G13bb? |

G13B = DOHC 16V swift GTi motor. This has unique cylinder head, manifolds aren't shared with anything else. G13BB and G16B: SOHC 16V all share the same cylinder head and exhaust manifold pattern. Jimny/Vitara extractors will work on a baleno/swift G16B (I have a baleno exhaust manifold on my Vitara G16B for packaging reasons) G13A, G13BA G16A= SOHC 8V manifold is different to G13B or G16BB and can't be used on either. If you have a stock SJ80 engine it's a G13BA, SOHC 8V carby motor and the manifolds can't be used on a G13B, G13BB or G16B. |

Hi Steve, thanks for your ongoing help with this. As you are in my area, do you have any recommendations on wrecker etc. where I could get an engine at a reasonable price? |

Reasonable price = not from a wrecker Better off buying a complete wrecked or damaged car (blown gearbox ect...) privately. |
