Post subject:	tyre choices on 87 NT LWB
Hi Guys, I know tyre sizing is done to death but i could not find anything about whether or not NT and WT sierras can take the same tire size. In a nutshell, I am going to go for 30 / 9.5 tires on a stock 87 NT LWB, and then do the springs if necessary. I really want to keep it stock as possible so these are likely the only changes, tires only if possible. Does the NT setup cause extra rub on the springs on the inside? Will the 30s fit without the bumper support chop? I could do 235/70/15, but i just love the biggest tyres if that is going work without too much pain. Thanks.

It might depend on your wheel offset but I got away with just trimming down the edges of the bumper mounts to fit 30s on my NT with -6 offset wheels. Mine didn't rub the springs on full lock, it was close though. NTs also have the spring spacing narrower so spring clearance isn't any different to a WT. You might also have to flatten out the firewall seams or fit a little bump stop spacing. All in all, 30s are not hard to fit scrub free.

Awesome! Thanks for the info, its just what i wanted to hear. Not sure of the offset, i will check that out. I am assuming there is also the slight benefit of the 3.9 diffs too.

You can always weld washers / nuts onto the steering lock stop bolt to prevent spring rub, but it is nice to have as much lock as you can get. Rgs, Michael
