Gearbox in the wife's GV needs a rebuild and have been quoted more than I'm willing to pay as the car has seen better days. I was hoping just to do a gearbox swap but there doesn't seem to be any 2nd hand boxes out there atm.
I have briefly seen comments online about the possibility of the g16b Boxes being the same but after google search and the search function here I can't seem to get an exact answer.
Are they the same, can I get a g16b Gearbox and mate it up to the engine or will there be more to it than that? With the price given for a rebuild I'm looking at just using that cash towards buying her a new model.

The question is what are you getting the G16b gearbox from - if it's from an SQ416, it should work, if it's from an SE416, I think it can be made to work, but don't expect it to be a direct swap...

Is the GV a 2.0 4cyl or V6? 1.6 and 2.0 are all but the same, with a different 5th gear ratio. V6 has different bellhousing

2.0 4cyl J20a as listed in the title (forgot to put it in the question)...
I haven't got a donor gearbox as yet, my question was made because if it can be swapped them I can try and chase one from a g16b instead of the intended j20a gearbox. If the SQ416 fits straight up then that might be an option for me to look into.

ah yes, there it is... If you are half way mechanically minded then a gearbox rebuild is not so hard. I've done a couple with no previous experience. Around $300 in parts and supplies. You can buy the bearing kits on ebay from the UK. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-Gran ... SwVlVaAwLT

Don’t j20’s use a hydraulic clutch?

Ah right, now I get it. There’s a truly tiny number of SQ416’s in Australia. Miniscule numbers.
