Post subject:  Gearbox for 2006 grand vitara manual
Hi everyone
I'm new to this site and have recently picked up a 2006 gv 2.7 v6 manual and the geargearbox has a sound like a low range gear whine in 1st and 2nd and I'm not sure if this is normal any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

No it's not normal, start by checking the fluid level - perhaps drain & refill and take a look at what comes out - are there any metal particles in it?

Ok thanks for that I will drop the oil and have a check.
If it needs reconditioning would you know anyone around nsw reasonably cheap or any idea how much it would cost.
Thanks in advance not long moved here so not sure where everything is.

Rebuilding could cost as much as the car is worth. Not sure what you paid for the car, but should have been around the 6K mark.
As fordem says, it is not normal, or common for these boxes to whine, so a s/hand box should be ok & will be a much cheaper option.
Or, just give it heaps in 1st & 2nd :twisted: so you don't spend long in those gears - might shorten it's life if it is a bearing, or last for ages, getting louder if it is a worn gear.
