Hello,

First time poster here. I am thinking about buying a 2012 MY09 2.4l Grand Vitara. I have done quite a bit of research and am aware of 2009-2011 2.4l GV's having manufacture issues with cracked blocks. This car I am thinking of buying is a 2012 with a 2012 manufacture date, but the MY is 09. Does this mean that this Grand Vitara's JB24 is prone to the cracked block problem? The vehicle does have the facelift. I have the engine number. Not sure if there is anyway to tell the engine manufacture date from that. Any help is massively appreciated!!

Where is the MY listed?

my compliance plate dates were only 6 months different. Mine is an early facelift and is either a 2011 or 2012.

I was wondering if I was the only one that picked up on that - there is no way you can have a 2009 model year vehicle with a 2012 manufacture date - a 2012 manufacture date is going to be either a 2012 or 2013 model year.

First year rego probably 2012, build date 09
Always discount 1st year rego
I’ve seen new cars 5-6 years old MY builds sold as new in 2019
If trading it not the year rego that counts its the MY build that the class book/dealer refers to

It’s the facelift model so it has to be post 2012

Read his post - he says it is a 2012 manufacture date.

Buying an earlier model year car is an excellent way to get a new car, with a new car warranty, at less than new car price - but that is not what he's talking about, he says it's a 2012 manufacture date, so there is no way it can be a 2009 model year.

Hello,

I have a 2012 GV Limited and it suddenly has a cracked block.

As I'm in the US, Suzy customer is next to impossible. When I did get hold of a bloke, it was like I was talking to some bloke at his house.

My GV has 105k in miles on it. I'm the second owner. It's been services at all intervals.

My sone was driving my car to go to tech class with my ex on the motorway when the car suddenly lost power and a bit of smoke came out under the bonnet.

I had the car towed back to a local repair shop and they looked it over and I had had coolant in the oil and zero compression.

I know here in the US there was a known issue from '08 to '10 on blocks. I looked up my vin number and my car came over 11/11. I'm sitting there thinking there's a fairly good chance I might have got one of the iffy blocks.

I finally get hole of Billy Bob Dontgiveashite at Suzuki North America and he tells me the block were changed in 2010 and my car wasn't an issue.

I've never in my entire life had a block go on me before and I've driven some high mileage cars. I'm just glad some of you here got some sort of help. In the US, you're on your own.
