Is it worth carrying a pair of these around?
I run ATs, not planning to get a winch or adding on proper recovery points, but unlikely to be doing anything hard out, but would rather have something rather than nothing.
Most of my offroad driving has been on sand where these are supposed to work best?

at 1.2m long they arent small, and no-where to stow them on a jimny except on the roof

Go to your local carpet store and get some offcuts of a similar size, roll them up and store them or lay them down in the back where they'll double as soundproofing.

When i drove sand yonks ago i just had 4 squares of carpet about 500x500mm and they got me out of being bogged to the chassis a few times. Trick is to put the carpet side down to the sand and the tyre on the underside. Grips really well and costs you nothing.

Might not work on mud and clay though?

We are of the opinion that maxtracks are a sign that someone loves tar.

Personally I would never consider a pair of traction ramps necessary for a Jimny driving on sand or just doing easy offroading.

Edit: Lol at Johnno's post. That and Prado drivers lol.

Get a tyre pressure gauge, much cheaper and heaps more effective.



For sand Alien is on the right path. I used those square foam floor mats to get my old dual cab hilux unstuck on the beach a few times, worked a treat.

I thought about getting a set of those tred things to have in our new triton 'just in case'. The only trouble is we only use the triton for camping and I always have those foam mats as part of our camping gear so can't see the point in another thing to lug around 'just in case'.

If it's for the Jimny on the beach I wouldn't bother.
For clay and mud, well......


The main question is do you often drive by your self in places where you might get really stuck?

I also have a set of the 900mm treds they were $99 at bcf once , they too look great, fit in the car well and have never been used.

I have a pair of 800mm TREDS also. They were a end of year present from work. They look great. But I've never used them.

Has anyone actually ever bogged a jimny in the sand?
The first time I took my jimny on the beach(about 3 months ago) I had too much tyre pressure and no idea what I was doing and I was stopped and stalled all over the place and each time the jimny just backed up and rolled on.
I don't know what I would have had to do to actually bog it.

i have waffle/frp boards, never needed them.

i've cut mine so they live in the back of the jimny, the two of them level the floor up in the little boot are. they seem to be all the rage in the UK for 'greenlaning' & some military vehicles carry them. they can be used a bridging ramps & easily take the weight of the jimny unlike these other plastic boards which would just fold up.



iirc i bought the 2 of them at 1.2 metres long for $50 on gumtree.

Got a decent tyre gauge and a compressor. Only ever get stuck when ive forgotten to air down.

So ill save myself $99 and not buy them. Chur!

I use waffle boards, also.
Never needed them in sand, even towing camper.
I think trax/treds could be much better for that.
Waffle boards are great for bridging duties, have used them a few times that way.
Not so good when they wet and slippy, but still helpful.
I'm told the newer max trax are suitable for bridging, but have not tried them.
Waffle boards are heavy compared to trax.

Where does the carpet go when its muddy/sandy and covered in goop in general? Back in the car?

I never had an issue flapping them about to get sand off then chucking back into the car. Sure, sand still got in but that's why we have holes in the floor and a garden hose =)

I guess the OP's purpose is sand, but that aint gunna cut it with mud.

I have a bright pink set of the 1100 treads. I Bogged the GV to the hilt on an access track at inskip. I went down early and came back at midday and the track was super soft. Didn't realise I went onto the beach at 36 psi no problems when the track was hard but when chewed up and soft plus me being a little slow finished in me with a shovel in my hand.

60 seconds with a shovel and the treads behind the rear wheels and pressure down to 16 psi I was out and that was bogged up to the sills in sand

The upside of the pink treads is when guys in patrols tease me I can say it's my wife's car..

Trimmed mine to fit roof rails.
Was easier than moving the rails
Don't matter if they get dirty up there.
