hey guys,

thought I would chuck this question up in the noob section for anyone else as useless as me, having an EFI engine with all the electrical wizardry under the hood.. I am lead to believe you cannot hose down the old girl for cleaning purposes.. So how would one clean the engine bay after a day of wheeling or just general tidiness as I like to have the bay looking A1 a majority of the time!!??

Every car I have ever owned for the past 15 years have had their engine bay gernied. from rotary/4/6/8 carby to efi, na to turbo.

For my Zuk (carby, but now efi) I use CT15 truck wash in hot water in a pump up pressure bottle (those 2ltr things from auto shops) to soak the bay for a bit. then give it a scrub, then gerny.

some will tell you to cover/avoid electrics or the alt/dizzy. I have never bothered to be honest.

Blast away. You'll be fine. I actually reckon carby engines are more susceptible to getting messed up by cleaning. They're not as well sealed.

Obviously avoid blasting the distributor area. That's all I avoid.

The connectors are rated as weatherproof rather than waterproof and are not pressure rated so you could have problems with water getting into them. One of the first jobs that I ever do on a vehicles is to pull all the connectors apart, clean them if necessary and then smear the insides with petroleum jelly, that makes a big difference to their water resistance.
