Post subject:  Longer driver side front U bolts /ubolts?

Tried searching if I separate the 'u' from bolts the search engine ignore it.

Put my driver side springs in and there is hardly any thread showing. Going to go down to the local wreckers tomorrow morning to try to find some longer ones. Anyone know another vehicle that i'm specifically looking for. Hope to get the same thread. Hopefully I can find something so I can put it on and move on to other jobs.

Most bolt shops will have something, take old ones in, say how much longer they need to be.

Drivers side ones are the longerst ones, because of diff pumpkin,
so check you used correct ones.

The local Nut/bolt wholesaler in brookvale is closed weekends :(

Otherwise i'd go straight there (probably will go Monday if tomorrow morning doesn't work out)

The u bolts are correct as I left them on the diff.

Have you done them up or are you looking at them just loosely fitted? Mine had only just enough thread to get the nut on, but as everything compresses when you do it up there was enough thread once tight, but only just enough thread, some had one or two thread sticking out some u bolts were flush with the end of the nut.

If you still don't have enough, pull a leaf out of the spring pack.

Do the new springs have the same pack thickness as the old ones?

no, going by one of his other thread he's got a dakar pack & has added an extra leaf so i'm guessing that's the problem.

Yeah went from 3 springs to 5 springs pompoms
If I left the locking washers out there would probably be enough thread to tighten the nuts but honestly I would never do it unless I was stuck in the bush trying to get back home and even then I would lash the hell out of it with rope (assuming I couldn't just remove a spring that is)

Did the run around this morning, the two local wreckers said they just throw out the ubolts, the nut and bolt place had 86mm wide and different tread, it was too wide. Trailer shop couldn't help me and 'Dr Shocks' suspension workshop was open but the storefront closed. So Monday :(

IMO 2nd hand u-bots are a bad idea
