Post subject:  RX7 Seats in a Vitara?

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone ever fitted RX7 seats into a Vitara?
(I have an 89 Vit so any year with a similar interior, The RX is an FD not sure if the seats changed too much through the models)
I've been offered a set at a really good price and am pretty keen to get them in the Vit if they'll fit.
I can't get dimensions for them at the moment because they're sitting in an insurance yard somewhere, which is why i'm asking here :)

Thanks!

fitting any aftermarket seats in a vit is a pain in the ass. rx7 will be no exception

Yup. You'll need to make custom mounts

I can’t comment on the RX7 seats but I have some Honda Prelude seats (series 4, about the same age as the Vit) that are about to go into mine. You will need to make mounts/frame because the Vit seats have longer legs on one side. If I spent the amount of time I spent fabbing mine up as a backyarder at work instead I could have bought gold plated Recaros, but I am happy with the result.

Just a word of warning having now bought my second set of second hand “production car” seats to try and fit that the 2 sets I own don’t have even mounting points and would need some packing (10-15mm) on some corners to bolt to a flat frame. Anyone want a set of sexy leather Liberty seats that are about 30mm too wide for a Vitara – had to build the frame to work that one out?

I have GT liberty seats in my vitara. They were a bitch to fit, but they do fit.

I have a set of vitara seat mounts Ollies made for his vit sitting under my house with leather seats on them. I have sold the seats but the mounts are still there if your interested mate. (they are made of solid 3mm plate and weigh a shit load!)

thanks for the insight guys. Thought it might be a pain in the arse to get them to fit, they're just too comfy to not try!
I've had someone offer to make mounts up but I was told when he made his own up he didn't measure a thing, it was all by eye 8O
I'm up in QLD at the moment so when I get back I'll suss them out again and see if they'll be any good.
